This review is coming from somebody from the USA on the first trip abroad. I am also a person used to chain hotels in the USA, so this was certainly different, but an excellent experience I must say.
The rooms are above a pub which isn't open 24hrs, so upon arrival we were given a key with a keychain that had 2 gate codes for entering after hours. In going upstairs we did see the numbered rooms as well as the shared bathrooms. The rooms are certainly nice, but maybe not quite as fancy feeling as they appear in the pictures. You certainly get that whole I am up above a pub vibe, in a building that is a bit older than the pictures might make it seem like. I will say it wasn't a bad thing though as they do a good job keeping it nice. The room wasn't as big as it seemed in the picture, but overall it didn't matter as we were only going there for sleep and didn't spend a lot of time in the room. On the night we were actually there early enough to try and sleep while the pub was still open, sounds coming from below wasn't an issue. It wasn't dead silent for sure, but it wasn't loud at all and didn't bother us at all to try and sleep. The beds were comfortable and we slept extremely well. I can't say how the AC or heat was as the temperature was perfect to have the windows open. I do know there were space heaters stored in a cabinet/wardrobe in the room.
The shared bathroom thing was only really a problem the first night as another group came in and decided to use all of the bathrooms all at once and took their time in them. At least for the room we got, we had the ability to use one of 3 bathrooms. 2 of them have toilets and showers, and one of them only had a shower. Both the rooms and the bathrooms were exceptionally clean, although I must say the bathrooms are very small. Small to the point where you will feel a bit cramped and it is hard to set things down. It was a bit tricky getting the water to the right temperature, but once we figured it out it was good after that. The only issue we had with the bathrooms after that seemed to be due to other people staying there. One time I walked in the bathroom and the shower head was apparently broken off and set at the bottom of the shower. On another occasion it appeared like water had overflowed onto the floor and I more or less was standing in a puddle in the bathroom.
We took advantage of the ability to eat downstairs and the food was excellent. We had a variety of things off the menu and all of it was delicious. In the mornings we were there for breakfast we did see they had a nice selection of cereals and milk and orange juice. This wasn't surprising, but was surprising is when the lady came over and asked me what I wanted for breakfast. Gave the option of scrambled eggs and a full English breakfast which I have to say was delicious. So overall the food is excellent, and I am honestly going to miss those breakfasts. Guess I will have to make it at home now.
Overall, I was really concerned about how I was going to feel about the place. Anything I could could complain about seems trivial. Especially for the price, I think it is a great stay. It is also convenient coming from the airport as you can hop on the Elizabeth line at the airport, and get dropped off within walking distance. Just be sure to be in the first 6 sections, the screen on the train will tell you. The Half Acre road bus stops are also stops on the night bus lines, so you will have public transportation available...
Read moreI called numerous times before our stay, as I can not eat wheat, gluten, dairy & soya. Even calling twice in the week before we arrived.
When we came down for dinner the only thing 9n the menu that I could eat was a burger in a GF bun with salad. Even after repeated messages & calls being a shored I had a choice to eat!
The room was underwhelming. I know we were sharing a bathroom, but there was no sink in the room either. The room was very tired, broken plaster, drawers missing pulls & only 3 hangers in the "wardrobe/cupboard.
A small bottle of water in the room for tea & coffee. The first night we stayed, people were still noisily in the bar until 1am shouting & screaming. Even screaming bye night night as they left. Breakfast the next morning was interesting the waitress/cook had no idea of my food allergies. I managed to have bacon, egg, grilled tomatoes with a grilled/toasted brioche burger bun. So we went elsewhere. (See my other review) When we returned on Saturday evening they thankfully closed one time & it was a quieter sleep. Breakfast on Sunday was the same, but at least the waitress/cook knew what...
Read moreIt's a place with great potential but that fails in the execution. Let me breakdown the review:
The room: I had the ensuite room which was great. The bed is 5 stars and very comfortable. It's also very clean which is not so usual in London's b&bs. You also have Sky Tv which I personally think is an unnecessary bonus. The shower is ok, but the water temperature regulator wasn't working properly.
The staff is kind and very helpful. Only downside, they didn't manage to provide me with an Iron as they didn't know where it was. So if you are traveling for business, that's not good at all.
Last but not least and probably the reason why they lost one star: breakfast. I've been to cheaper places that provided better breakfast. There was no English or continental or not even an attempt to bring anything fresh. That's where I think managent could make a huge improvement which could justify even an increase of their rates. It's not cheap enough to provide the kind of "packaged" breakfast they give...
