The Kernel Brewery in Bermondsey is highly regarded as a key spot along the Bermondsey Beer Mile. It's housed in a traditional railway arch, giving it a rustic and unpretentious vibe. The focus here is primarily on the beer, with an impressive selection of hoppy IPAs, robust stouts, crisp lagers, and other varieties served from their 16 taps. The taproom itself is simple yet charming, with wooden tables and beer barrels enhancing the cosy atmosphere. It opens early on Saturdays at 11 a.m., making it a great starting point for a day of brewery hopping. While The Kernel doesn’t serve meals, it offers snacks like cheese and charcuterie boards, and there are plenty of food options nearby. Excellent quality of the beers, emphasizing the authenticity and passion behind the brewing process. The ambience is relaxed and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for both craft beer enthusiasts and casual visitors. Overall, The Kernel Brewery provides a laid-back, high-quality craft beer experience, well worth a visit if you're in the area. Dog-friendly... 🐕

Absolutely amazing dinner I had here. An extensive and tasty beer menu, all brewed in the heart of South London. Firstly a note about the space itself. The decor is minimal, with a warm and friendly buzz from both patrons and staff alike. The cold beers revive you from the summer heat. The doors were open, the vibe was lovely and the food was delicious. I feel that Yagi Izakaya should be a permanent fixture in the space. The karaage was some of the best in London, paired perfectly with a non-traditional heap of parmesan cheese and a generous dollop of dashi mayonaise. Divinely washed down with a gulp of beer. The chicken hatsu skewers whisked me back to izakayas in Japan: smokey, spicy- with perfect meaty texture. Every dish was cooked with intention and flavoured with thought. Will definitely be back- my highlight on an otherwise bland Friday.

We had a truly delightful evening here. An excellent selection of beers and ciders, none of which I've ever heard of (all the better) but the highlight of the night was the outstanding Japanese cuisine on offer from the kitchen. The tuna tataki and hispi cabbage were to die for, and the gyoza were the standouts - I've had food that cost twice as much in London that wasn't half as good. 10/10 would reccomend, but arrive early if you havent reserved. Dictated but not signed to avoid delay

The Kernel Brewery Tap Room located in Spa Road, off Rouel Road in Bermondsey is for me one of the greatest modern craft breweries in London and further afield established in 2009. They have a range of up to 24 different beers on tap and often, 2-3 cask beers all brewed by themselves. I am personally delighted that they offer the option of 1/3 Pints so that I can try a bigger variety of their amazing Pale Ales, India Pale Ales, Lagers, Pilsners, Red Rye Ales, sour beers and dark beers like Porters and Stouts out of all the range that they have. The staff are very approachable, friendly and for the most cases real beer nerds with a very good experience and passion for craft ales and very good beer conversations. These are all the good signs of a great establishment that really cares about what they do and where quality is always at the forefront of things unlike some other “craft breweries” who have gone downhill in quality in the last 10 years and have become very big and mainstream in style. The tap room is very large, wide and spacious and can take bookings for the Yagi Izakaya food menu which I have yet to try. As well as some branded merchandising, most of the selection of their beers are available to buy in bottles at the taproom and they also accept cash payments!...
