EDIT: will leave my full review below for clarity, but can confirm that we had discussed our booking with the assistant manager TJ, and he has ensured that steps are taken to ensure the issues we had doesn’t re-occur for future guests. I have therefore amended the score to reflect I am happy with the resolution.
Bermonds Locke is a lovely hotel, centrally located, easy access to nearby London Bridge and Borough Market, as well as a short walk from a nice park and tube stop.
What Bermonds Locke does not have is an acceptable standard of customer service, and the rooms very much vary in quality.
We booked our stay as we were getting married in Bermondsey on Saturday 12th July, and opted to stay for two nights. Before we booked, we made enquiries as to room types and the number of visitors my wife could have whilst she was getting ready. When speaking to a representative over the phone, they advised that if we were to book a Locke Studio (important for later), they would provide us with a complimentary upgrade to a Courtyard Suite, which was the room we wanted to book (due to having our 1 year old dog with us). No problem, and we felt very happy.
My wife (Fiancée at the time) asked me to check in with the hotel back in May as we never received confirmation of the Courtyard Suite. We opted to check on WhatsApp with them, and received a written message to confirm the Courtyard Suite was booked for our stay.
Fast forward to the 11th July; which is when we checked in, and a newer member of the team (absolutely no fault on his part) advised us that we had been assigned a first floor one-bedroom suite (still considered an upgrade on the room we paid for). When we asked what happened to the room we had been confirmed as having, they simply put it down to an overbooking situation. They tried their best not to apologise, didn’t offer an alternative room and said that if a courtyard suite did become available, they would let us know.
Not only was the room we were assigned not ideal for our needs (having a dog, easier access from the room to the outside, somewhere outside that almost expanded the Usable room area), the room we were assigned was so unbearably hot, that even with two fans, we couldn’t bring the temperature down. The heat was also very stressful on our dog, who struggled to keep herself from having accidents because of the much longer journey from our room to the outside. It’s also important to note that we had several family members book with the hotel also, who had asked to be assigned a room near to ours, only to end up right next to the courtyard suites and nowhere near the rooms that were assigned.
Housekeeping also needs a special mention for taking over 2 hours with almost any request, and us having to repeatedly chase on an already stressful day almost put us over the edge.
The wedding was wonderful, and everything at the venue went off without a hitch. But the team at Bermonds Locke did everything physically possible to add as much stress to the experience as possible. I’ll be striving to ensure I never stay in a Locke property again, and given no-one has reached out to offer us any form of apologies or compensation, quite a few others will hopefully heed this warning and...
Read moreIf you are looking for a nice place to stay in London, look no further. This beautiful hotel has comfortable, spacious, quiet rooms that will make you feel at home. The full kitchen is fantastic especially if staying more than a couple days. Loved the all in one washer dryer, just set and forget and the load is done. There is an internet cafe inside with 2 separate areas and a nice little coffee shop. Wifi worked well which was great bc service in general over there did not, especially Google maps. I highly recommend mapping things out before leaving the hotel in case you come across connection issues in London as we did. This hotel is in a great location with a bus stop right out front and 2 metro stations within easy walking distance. There are plenty of shops and places to eat nearby. There is a hop on hop off stop near the tower bridge right up the road. The public transportation over there is phenomenal. You can get almost anywhere by train. We went to Paris and Salsbury with ease. The hotel itself is very clean. You will use your key card to access the front door, elevator, and your room of course so it is very secure and made coming and going after hours a breeze The area felt safe even while walking around at night by myself. The area is also not as tourist populated as say near Westminster which we enjoyed. Unfortunately, we found a lot of the people in London not the nicest or helpful so I recommend doing a lot of research as far as getting around and any challenges you may face if you've never been. If it had not been for the incredible staff being the first real encounter we had with locals we may have started the trip with a different mindset. While the entire staff were friendly and accommodating, I must give a shout out to one front desk staff that was amazing. Sohna was the first one to greet us and get us checked in. She has an incredibly infectious smile and just could not be sweeter. She made us feel extremely welcome and seemed to really enjoy her job. We arrived around 11:30 am and I was not feeling well due to motion sickness from the plane, She helped us with with the first available early check in and safely held our luggage until the room was ready. We had brought the wrong adapters for our plugs and they kindly provided us with one to use during our stay. We had the pleasure of also staying at one of their sister hotels in Dublin later in our trip and it was just as fab. I would highly recommend not only this hotel but any in their chain should you happen to visit a local with one of...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at Bermonds Locke for two weeks in February 2022, and I must say that it left a lasting impression on me. From its contemporary ambiance to its excellent connectivity, this hotel offered a delightful experience.
Upon entering, the hotel emanated a vibrant and lively atmosphere, thanks to its open working area. The modern decor and inviting design set the tone for a comfortable stay. Plus, with the London Bridge station just a short 10-minute walk away, exploring different parts of London was a breeze. For those seeking a leisurely evening, a pleasant stroll to the Tower Bridge offered breathtaking views of the City of London.
As a first-time hotel guest in London, I was unaware that complimentary breakfast was not included, unlike what I had experienced in Middle Eastern hotels. However, I appreciated that Bermonds Locke was considerate enough to offer a generous 25% (if not 35%) discount on their delectable breakfast menu, which featured tantalizing options from their in-house bakery.
The room I stayed in was more than just a typical hotel room; it felt like a cozy studio apartment. Equipped with a fully functioning oven, fridge, stove, dishwasher, and even a laundry facility, it provided all the comforts of a home away from home. Housekeeping was provided once a week, which suited my needs during my two-week stay.
The only slight disappointment was that I was unable to select my preferred room. In fairness, I believe that if guests are not given the option to choose, they should at least be provided with some flexibility in this matter. Nonetheless, this minor inconvenience should not significantly affect the overall experience for most guests.
In retrospect, my time at Bermonds Locke holds a special place in my memories, as it marked my first lodging experience in the UK. The hotel's contemporary vibe, convenient location, and the attentiveness of the staff made it an enjoyable stay. Cheers to Bermonds Locke for creating such a...
