London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇 Hornsey 🍺 £6.10 Pravha The Kings Head is located on the corner of a parade of shops in the heart of Crouch End. The nearest station is Hornsey, it’s a fifteen minute walk to get here. There has been a pub in on this site since 1662. In the 19th century the pub was informally known as “The Yard of Pork”. Prior to 1812 the pub was called The White Hart. The majestic turreted pub you see today was built for Taylor Walker in 1892. In the basement of The Kings Head is the home to one of the oldest comedy clubs in Britain. “Downstairs at the Kings Head” was founded in 1981, comedians like Alexei Sayle, Lee Mack, Ed Byrne, Rob Beckett and Jimmy Carr have all graced the stage here. This is a stylish one bar pub with a contemporary feel. The servery is located on the left hand side and has modern lighting above the counter. On one wall is a decorative collage of music, TV and film stars, on another is a collection of photos of comedians who have performed here. There is plenty seating throughout with traditional tables and chairs, curved banquettes and a couple of sofas. At the back of the bar is the stairs down to the basement Comedy Club. The beer line up will please most with a selection of cask, London craft and mainstream beers to choose from. I decided on a pint of Pravha, my pint was great, price point was average. There is a classic pub grub menu available, Fish & Chips costs £17. We arrived around 1.30pm on a Sunny Saturday lunchtime in August. The pub was fairly quiet with a few locals and a couple with their pooch in attendance. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to settle in. The service was ok, the welcome was pleasant enough. As well as hosting comedy nights there is also Jazz on a Sunday and a weekly quiz. Lots of history and celebrity is associated with @thekingsheadn8 . Our visit was good, I loved the architecture of this imposing pub and especially the portrait of Bill Murray. Our beers were on point and not overly priced, the vibe laidback and relaxed. This pub is worth a look if you’re in the area. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 17.08.24

A lot can happen in five years and after a family walk we found ourselves back at a the Kings Head for a family meal again. Overall our experience was a bit better than last time and I've added a star as the food was acceptable though our sourdough loaf was stale from being sliced some time before serving. However the staff were a bit aloof and being let down by an app/website that didn't keep up to date with what WA s currently available either in the kitchen or on the bar. We also had a very long wait for our mains (Sunday roast) and had to chase both these and a side we'd ordered due to confusion with the ordering system. I wouldn't avoid The Kings Head but I wouldn't rush back either. Review from 2018: [Cool local pub with some nice beers and funky décor. Service was very pleasant, but the food was a bit bit disappointing. My wife had the Sunday roast half chicken and although beautifully presented some of the items were a disappointment. Chewy Yorkshire pudding, undercooked parsnips and soggy roast potatoes. Smoked haddock fishcakes were also nicely presented but smothered in too much hollandaise and could use a side vegetable. The kids fish and chips though was perfect - crisp and fresh, we stole everything my daughter left on her plate.]

Visit: 25 February 2019 Found myself in the area and hankering after some food, thought I'd check out The King's Head as I still had favourable memories from my last visit albeit almost 3 years ago! Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere upon entering and a cheerful welcome when I approached the bar. I took advantage of their burger meal deal, £10.95 for a chicken burger and a pint of Pravha. Not a lager fan but it was very refreshing. The burger was nice, the fillet wasn't over cooked and came with a rasher of bacon, slice of avocado and fries on the side. Very good value for money. Overall a good experience, I'm seldom in the area but no doubt when I next am I'll be popping in here. Visit: 26 June 2016 Very nice pub, better than I was expecting. Reasonable selection of cask ales and a few craft offerings on keg. Good selection of food that seemed very reasonably priced. Sunday evening had an odd DJ on the decks who, while spinning some old classics, seemed to have no life in him and his wife, sat at the end of the decks looking miserable as sin!?

Today we decided to have a nice meal in the sun at this lovely looking pub only to have what I would call the most bland and tasteless roast I've ever encountered. I specifically asked the young lady at the bar whilst ordering my meal I would like the roast chicken to be grilled a little more than average yet it still came fairly average and basic. It's disappointing as we were very hungry and took a few bites from our food before wanting to leave. We weren't asked once if we were satisfied with the meal even though there were loads of waiters around us and even whilst leaving we weren't asked how our stay was. Although we were in the garden and yes its summer time so you'd expect to have lots of flies buzzing around... Today there was an unexpected amount of filthy green flies flying around the garden and it was impossible to even take a sip from our drinks let alone food. Overall I would not recommend this pub as it's very overpriced and you do not get the service and quality of food that you've been promised.

With every Sunday roast everyone loves a nice Yorkshire pudding yet today we had what I would say cardboard in the shape of Yorkshire puddings to bite into. To my surprise on the way out I saw that all the Yorkshire puddings were just kept in a basket outside the kitchen which isn't the way to store edibles let alone that's not a way to keep it soft and warm.

Unfortunately I will not be...
