I visited The Merchant Pub of Battersea on one of their live music nights. During the evening I was subjected to verbal homophobic abuse by 2 young male customers. The first male's accomplice then joined In -he came over and invaded my personal space and started repeatedly touching me while laughing out aloud. I told the second male that homophobic abuse is a hate crime and is taken very seriously by the police and the criminal justice system.
The second male's blonde female girlfriend then joined in and started threatening and abusing me.
I asked the duty security guard for help and shockingly, not only did he refuse to assist me...he BLAMED ME for being victim to the homophobic abuse!!!!!
Thankfully the duty manager then intervened. This is the second time I have been subjected to very upsetting homophobic abuse at The Merchant Pub of Battersea.
To my fellow members of the LGBTQIA + community...please beware during The Merchant's live music nights. They have a certain proportion of regular clientele who are nasty and very homophobic at this pub, and are looking to intimidate, threaten and victimise members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I feel very sad that this is the second time this has happened to me at The Merchant Pub of Battersea on the day of PRIDE when the rest of the world is celebrating diversity and PRIDE.
Does the owner of The Merchant Pub of Battersea understand that customers whi subject LGBTQIA + customers to homophobic abuse in your pub are committing a...

The fish and chips were so bad!!!! First one that came out was burnt (see pics) so asked for a new one which was soggy (uncooked batter) so couldn’t eat most of it and the chips weren’t great either. The schnitzel was very dry too.
The worst part was that my friend ordered the Korean fried cauliflower but was given the other type which comes with nuts which she has an intolerance to, so it’s very lucky she isn’t so allergic so didn’t go into anaphylactic shock!! It was very dark so she couldn’t see the almonds on top so took one bite and spat out but it could have been bad.
we complained about this and the Waitress said that they had ordered one with nuts on and it clearly says on the menu that it has but they ordered the one that doesn’t specify, the person who took their order confirmed their choice and the wrong one came out. The waitress in question was extremely moody and rude and obviously didn’t want to be there either.
Would come back but would never...
Read moreMyself and two other friends were subject to severe food poisoning having visited this establishment and subsequently suffered a loss of earnings (being sole traders) due to the lack of care taken over food preparation. I logged a complaint with the pub and was assured that they meet all regulations with regards to food standards, though would not accept that there was any wrongdoing on their part on this occasion. They then neglected to respond to further correspondence after I had stressed that it was only possible that two specific dishes from their menu could have caused the food poisoning (they were the ONLY items all three victims had shared in a two week window surrounding that exact date). I attempted to act in a civil manner and allowed the manager to return back to me with an explanation / resolution, but was ignored instead. For an establishment of its size and popularity, I'm shocked at the lack of empathy we were subject to and will avoid at all costs...
