Azteca Battersea — Restaurant in London

Went for drinks and dinner on a Friday night. The drinks and food were good (not the best tacos I've ever eaten and the BBQ Prawns came grilled in their shell which meant none of the seasoning ended up on the Prawns when you ate them) but the staff was the main disappointment. After placing our order for drinks and food we got brought chips and guacamole - which we didn't order but thought it was perhaps complimentary since newly opened. After about 10 minutes the waitress came back over and told us this wasn't actually meant for us and we told her how we thought she had given it to us complimentary to which she replied no and that is she could check if she could give us something complimentary (she never did but we didn't really care about that at all). What was particularly off putting is that she then picked up the bowl of chips and guacamole of which we had already had eaten some of and then immediately gave it to the table next to us. We instantly felt embarrassed and unsure of if we should tell the table next to us as they weren't paying attention to the whole situation as we both agreed we would be unimpressed if a restaurant served us food other guests had partially eaten. Throughout the night at least 3 other times this type of issue happened. They brought us the incorrect drinks, when we told them not what we ordered they realized it was the wrong table and tried to serve to the table to our left incorrectly before realizing it was for the table to our right. They tried to give a dish we ordered to the table next to us and took them a few minutes to then come back and realize it was for our table. Seems like management needs to do a better job ensuring staff knows what order...

My friends & I chose to dine here after reading the good reviews, and craving a nice Mexican! I never usually leave reviews, but I was just so disappointed on this occasion, that I feel I must.

Couldn’t hear a thing! The restaurant is really aesthically pretty, but it is actually super noisy to dine in. We were sat on a table for 6, and although the table itself is pretty; we were all so far apart from each other we couldn’t hear a word. Everyone seemed to be talking very loudly to be heard!

Service The lady serving us, I really hate to say Perhaps she was overworked or they were short staffed.

Times 2x margaritas honestly took 20mins to arrive. We chased on them twice. 2x chips and gaucamole against took around 20mins to arrive. When we asked for extra tortilla chips that took an extra 10mins.

Price Chips & gauc was £10 which for the portion size, was truly expensive. You get a tiny portion of chips, and when we ordered more chips which was a super small bowl, that was a further £2. Otherwise, the tacos themselves I think are an OKAY price, as well as the sides. The cocktails for £14 did feel overpriced for the taste/quality.

Food Speaking on the food alone, it is nice! The cabbage side was super tasty, the tacos were quite nice indeed, and the gaucamole was nice but not out of this world.

All in all, the food is tasty! There were just too many aspects around timing and service that let this experience down and made it feel overpriced.

We dined as a table for 5 on a Wed @ 730pm, the restaurant didn’t seem overly busy but perhaps all the service aspects were down to...

I can’t describe how good Azteca is - staff, food, vibes - 1000/10. It’s great if you just want dinner, drinks, or if you want to host a party - like we did.

We had our post civil wedding meal and drinks here, and it was one of my best ideas. Sitara was great to work with - even though she had to chase me a few times (sorry again, and thanks for keeping me in check!) - she was always incredibly polite, and organised our afternoon and evening to perfection. They also gave us the bar, and let us host an epic party with our friends and family. This bar is a hidden gem for events!

The meal was, as always, bloody brilliant, the margs were v tasty, but one thing I can’t emphasise enough is how great the staff were. Attentive, helpful, fun - and the owner is a great guy who really cared about making sure we had a great time. This was clear the whole time we were there (thank you!).

They catered last minute to my niece being at the table - making her feel welcome and organising a kids meal (that I forgot to pre-order) and again with a severe gluten allergy (again, one I forgot about!), and also helped us to get my husbands grandad to our table in his wheelchair (big Azteca fan now 😂). But nothing was too much hassle, and they handled it like pros.
