Yesterday we went to celebrate my partners birthday everything was going well until we got the food my partner order a burger that looked ok but my chicken salad and his mum salad had 2 leaves of salad looked so poor I had this salad on a previous visit and looked so much better .i was shocked thinking the chef forgotten to add the salad so I called the Lady manager with black hair and while I was trying to explain that I was not happy about the dish she looked upset and without even let me finish my sentence she start saying she could not do anything about it as I had already eaten some of it .Again trying to explain to her that I have not eaten anything but used the fork to move the chicken to prove that the plate did not had any amount of salad in it .the manager rudely snap the plates out of the table we were chocked with her behaviour I then asked her to give me back the salad as I was very hungry she agressevely drop the plates on the table and storm out I could not believe a Manager was this rude it got to the point I lost my apetite and took the food to the bar and ask to call the Manager back the lady at the bar went to call her saying she was in the office .when the Manager appeared I ask her if she was OK as she looked very upset and stressed .again when I was trying to calmly speak to her again she did not wanted to listen to me I said to the Manager that I was the customer she should listen to me not talk over me . I am a restaurant manager myself and I would not accept any of my team members behave like this towards any customers let alone a Restaurant Manager . It was very obvious she was very stressed for some reason but that's not a excuse to treat your paying customers badly without any kind of apologies even once ,what a desappointing experience I was going here once a week to eat but defenetly my last time .we end up going to spend our money across the road where the service and food were great. I would like some kind of compensation for been treated so agressevely by your Manager .Looking forward to...

Rude & inept FOH staff - we had booked 2x tables of 6, requesting on the phone that they be together. Upon arrival, we had been given a table for 4 people and a table for 5, which were at opposite ends of the pub! We ended up having to shuffle tables after initially being told that we weren’t allowed to do that.

Part-way through our first drink we decided to order food (the menu was still on display outside) to be told that the kitchen was closed due to a gas issue - not great, especially as we weren’t made aware of this when we were seated. Myself and another went out to eat, and tried to return to the party towards the end of the night. We didn’t want any drinks, just to join the rest of the party while they finish off. We were given 3 different excuses as to why we weren’t allowed in (no outside food - we threw it away after hearing that, because of covid(??) and finally because they’re closed). The lady on FOH was extremely, extremely rude to us throughout this back and forth. We were especially upset about this as she had recognised us from earlier in the evening so knew we were definitely with the group of people still inside.

Overall an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience and I wouldn’t recommend this...

Although have been around Richmond for a long time, only in the last couple of months found The Railway Tavern to be a friendly, welcoming and functional place to visit.

Friendly - Everyone who has served me has been polite, chilled and friendly. No issues whatsoever! I'd name some names, but I'm real all are just as great- keep it up guys.

Welcoming - Many one off pop in people, but has its few regulars to add to the charm of the place. Atmosphere is great, parts that are quiet and parts that are more lively bar.

Functional - I quite often work from home. So being able to grab a booth seat that had plug sockets and USB is good. Added bonus I really like is they are tucked right away - could be great for those who are anti-social and like to be left alone (like me sometimes), but mostly can have those quick calls on Zoom / Teams for work and not have background noise. Perfect!

I can't rate the food myself as haven't had it yet. But those I've seen, it looked good.

Hidden little secret in the busy town - today is Sunny and beer garden is quiet. Don't think people know it's here. All mine, it's quiet and gets captures the sun 🌞

Look forward to...

Latest visit was a bit of a joke. Ordered a lager shandy which came to £7.10 which is just ridiculous, asked the barman if that was right and was rudely told it was a pint of lager. Could possibly have stomached that but some people were there for a Christmas party which was bizarrely sectioned off with red and white hazard tape which looked so bad it was amusong. To add to the ambiance so was one of the toilets and the urinal was full of vomit and an empty can. Place looked like a crime scene despite charging top end prices. Unjustifiable. I don't think the party were too impressed and neither were we. Haven't given minimum stars as usually it's pretty good as a pub next to the station for a pint or to watch the football.

Staff polite & friendly, but unable to assist. My husband & I were attending The Carpenters' Story at Richmond Theatre & had planned to have a meal before-hand. Unfortunately the only gluten free meal on the menu was the Chicken & Chorizo, which was sold out. I was directed to their G.F starters: Padron Peppers, House Cooked Nachos, Mini Chorizos & Loaded Triple Fried Chips, I selected the latter, whilst my husband chose Fish & Chips: both were pleasing enough. I find it extremely disappointing that in 2022 in a large establishment in Richmond upon Thames that I was unable to sit down & enjoy a relaxed pre-theatre early evening meal with my husband. We won't be returning.
