Average at best...
A quiet Sunday afternoon treat with my husband.
We were given options of eating inside or out on arrival (we chose inside) and promptly taken to a lovely corner window seat. We were offered water for the table immediately.
We quickly browsed through the drinks menu and ordered a few of the Bazaar cocktails...they were okay, nothing special.
We looked through the menu and decided on the Paani Puree and Dhaka Chaat...and honestly, the starters were the best part of the meal!
We decided on the Ox tail Vindaloo and the Double Cooked Pork Belly, Pilau rice, Garlic Naan and House Black Dhal.
Immediately told by the server...the oxtail was out..so he stood there, staring and we felt pressure to order a second option.
The pork was nice, but was definitely more Chinese than Indian and the portion was tiny!
The naan was doughy not thin and crispy and generally lack any garlic flavour.
The dhal, was very runny! I l know it is personal preference but felt the dhal.was overly thin and lacked any real taste.
The pilau rice tasted flavourless and almost like it was microwaved in a bag.
Generally, the food was lackluster, the portions were small and the staff were nonchalant. Our waiter, had a distinct smell of BO which is very unpleasant when ordering and delivering food and to wait until we order to be told something is not available is very frustrating, we told the waiter this at the time and when the table next to us ordered a lamb dish, they were told the same...so good to know the feedback was taken on board.
We love different, authentic Indian restaurants and this place is overhyped and underwhelming.
Disappointed to...
Read moreWe visited Cinnamon Bazaar before going to the theatre. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we were given a comfortable and spacious table. We ordered a pina colada and old fashioned with jaggery. The pina colada was excellent but we found the old fashioned a little too sweet. Will have again but ask for it to be made with less jaggery. We ordered a selection of starters. The dahin puri was good but it would have been better to either drench the puris in a lighter yoghurt sauce, or make puris which can hold up to being filled with a thick yogurt. This was because the puris were very soggy at the bottom when we were served them to the table. However, the prawns, dabeli and tomato/cashew chaat were very good. We ordered the jackfruit, chickpea and kale kofta along with a garlic naan and peshwari naan. The koftas were unusual in combination but worked very well in the nilgiri sauce. However, we tend to like our naans on the crisper side and when I requested this I was advised to not have the peshwari naan crispy. Big mistake - it was soggy and felt very doughy. I should have stuck with my gut and insisted on it being made to our requirement. This time recommendation most definitely did not work. Finally, we ordered a pot of masala chai. Unfortunately, this was very milky so we had to request a teabag in order to make it stronger. I don’t understand how an Indian restaurant can get masala chai so wrong. Try and replicate Dishoom’s chai and Cinnamon Bazaar will be onto something. All said though, we will definitely visit again. Would like to try more of the...
Read moreMy friend and I decided to come here to celebrate her birthday with Indian food. As International students, we constantly try to find authentic Indian restaurants to cure homesickness. My friend who is from Kerala was really excited for certain dishes on the menu because they are from her state. We both had the Set Menu and shared our courses with each other. We opted for the Toddy Shop Pepper Fry, Malabar Boatman's Fish Curry, Lamb Roganjosh Shepherd's pie, and Carrot and Ginger Toffee Pudding.
The Pepper fry is a great starter. I am not a fan of seafood and yet I enjoyed the prawns. They were delicious and crispy (just the right amount). The Fish Curry is rich. We were told it is spicy but we didn't really find it that spicy. It had a bit more tomatoey base and so was slightly sweet. Still very delicious. Roganjosh Shepherd's pie was the underdog hero of the day. I was not really expecting much from it due to it being a Shepherd's Pie but it was cooked to perfection. The meat literally melts in your mouth. It's warm and a soul food honestly. The blend of spices with the meat was just divine. The Carrot and Ginger Toffee Pudding was a perfect way to end the meal. It was warm and sweet and since there is an ice-cream on the side with it, it creates a great balance of the hot and cold mouthful. The slight hint of ginger goes really well in the toffee pudding.
Overall, we really enjoyed the meal and look forward to trying out the Covent Garden branch as well. The service was absolutely amazing and the aesthetics of the place is also really vibey and great...
