We feel a bit let down with The Windjammer. We have been here a few times now and each time has been different. Today's experience was diabolical though which means it's likely we won't return. Firstly, the good. This is a nice spacious restaurant with an excellent location overlooking the Thames Barrier. You can sit inside or outside depending on the weather. The food is fairly tasty, but some of it a little overpriced for what is offered. They do have a reasonable selection of drinks though. Now the bad, the service previously has been either too on-point, or today non-existent. Upon entering no one asked us to be seated as we stood by the entrance waiting to be served. We grabbed our own table anyway (it wasn't that busy). Service was lacking as we had to go to the bar to order drinks and starters, rather than be served at the table. The Windjammer allows for dogs inside and out, which owners often allow to sit on the seats where people sit and eat. Even eating food off the table. This is great for dog lovers, but totally barbaric for anyone else. They should really bar dogs from inside the restaurant. I have just read a similar complaint from another review from about a year ago. The owner has responded saying it's a dog friendly pub and you can ask to sit upstairs away from the dogs if it's a concern. If this is the case, then upon entering staff should perhaps mention this to customers and offer them the choice. After our main meal, they received a delivery of new barrels the noise and banging against the wall was off-putting to say the least. We promptly left without having desert.

This is our second 'Pub' based around East London under the Fuller's brand... When we found out about this place, where it was based and we had to go check it out for ourselves. Getting here via public transport is easy enough, for buses, you would take the route 474 to either stops Mill Road (Stop R) or Pontoon Dock (Stop S or Stop Q) and walk it here. For Docklands Light Railway (DLR), just stop at Pontoon Dock and again, just walk it here. For the river, use the Thames Clippers and stop at Royal Wharf Pier. The place itself was nice, had a modern look and feel inside and out, seating on the ground and second floor but outside too, caters to all. The view from here was great, a selling point for most. The food was also nice, has a good enough selection for most palettes. Only drawback was, i wanted the salmon but it was already sold out by 6 PM and chips by 7 PM but they had sweet potato fries though...i guess they underestimated how many customers they would have that day..? The staff were friendly, helpful when asked, which is great to see. One thing to note, i'd advice to book in advance, especially if the weather is nice and you are looking for seating outside. All in all, it was a nice experience and recommended.

For a long time I have been a regular customer, and my favourite dish was fish and chips. Unfortunately, the quality has significantly declined over the past few visits. I have recommended this place in the past because it was very tasty, but I am very disappointed now. The fish on these visits has not been fresh and has even smelled as if it were expired. Management were quick to resolve the issue by offering to cook a replacement or provide a refund. Today, a friend and I were served an overcooked fish. After speaking with management, we were told that the oil was old and would not be replaced, and therefore a refund was offered. I accepted the refund, but I would urge the owners to pay closer attention to their customers. If you want to retain customers, you must maintain the high quality of your food. Customers should be aware that the fish is not always fresh. As this has happened a few times now, I suspect they are attempting to sell expired fish rather than discard it. On the other hand, the venue is lovely and the staff are polite. I hope the quality of the food improves. Thank you.

Attractive clean, modern venue in a prime riverside spot. Quite well organised to provide service in spite of the COV19 challenges, however there was one member of staff who spoilt the experience for my partner and I. This individual told us when serving our drinks at 10.30pm that we needed to drink quickly as the bar would be closing at 10:50pm. When I queried this with her, citing the time on the website as being 11pm, she told us that the website is wrong and the bar is closing at 10.50pm due to COVID.

Shortly afterwards, a colleague came to take payment and reminded us that the bar was closing at 11pm. I asked him why his colleague standing next to him hold told us 10.50pm and he reiterated that the bar definitely closed at 11pm. I said that his colleague must have been lying to me then, she then stepped in and told me she wasn't lying and that I had misunderstood her. My partner clarified that she had definitely said this. When walking away she loudly said to her colleague that I am "weird".

When we left the bar shortly before closing time we complained to the manager Kristof about the situation, as we were talking to him the female colleague in question made a point of walking past us, staring and laughing at us. Kristof apologised and offered to buy us free drinks at our next visit.

UPDATE We returned to the Windjammer to take the Kristof up on his offer of a free drink- we brought a local friend along. The service was great with a warm welcome from all- the member of staff who had been rude on the last visit apologised. We will definitely...

The food is tasty, but worth mentioning the portion sizes. Over three visits I experienced the same issue.

The same great tasting food can be purchased just across the river at the O2, there is even the advantage of having a nice pleasant trip with Thames Clipper to get there in less than 10 minutes.

In the first visit I ordered a burger and my partner ordered a fish and chips. The amount of chips on the plate was half of a side chips in compared to any other pub, this was mentioned to the waitress. Not worth it. Before the lockdown happened.

The second time on the 12-Jul-2020, we ordered the same thing, the side seemed to have shrunk even more. We mentioned to the waiter.

The third visit was on my birthday, we both ordered salad, mine was with chicken, tiny piece of of it actually (it was thigh, had I known I would not have ordered). My partner ordered salad with salmon, also a tiny size. The worst was the salad, the amount of leave could barely cover the plate. Very cheap ingredients to serve such a tiny dish that on the menu is offered as a "Main". This is side size.

Coming from the hospitality industry, I understand that a happy customer is a returning customer. Size matters and I am afraid to say that the ""Main Menu" isn't a "Main" size.

Sainsbury's to sells the very same ingredients, and for £1.85 for the very same salad in bigger more fulfilling size done at fresh at...
