Disorganised booking system and lethargic staff spoiled our Sunday evening. Frankly amazed this place has such good reviews.
We were only in the place for about 30 minutes but several times customers, including us, were told to move as their tables were booked despite no indication of this written down. Dogs brought in by walk in guests were treated as more worthy of comfortable booth seating than those who booked ahead of time.
Arriving earlier than our booked slot meant I was fine waiting at a draughty and tiny table next to the toilets temporarily, but after asking several times it was clear no other table was forthcoming. To top it off, the table we saw earmarked for our party was given away without notice.
The “best” part was booking a table specifically for food, but no member of staff felt compelled to mention the kitchen had run out of roasts (most of Sunday’s menu). We spent time and money in there under the illusion we’d be offered half decent seating and a roast, but it eventually became clear we were to be offered neither.
Upon being told we’d be leaving, a half baked apology was offered but nothing else. Probably because it was busy and they’d make up for our lack of custom, not a nice way to be treated.
Annoyed we gave them business by buying drinks to be...
Read moreThe Woodbine in Arsenal is a true gem! Stepping inside feels like discovering a hidden, cosy retreat. The quaint ambiance and charming decor create a wonderfully warm and inviting atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease. What truly sets the Woodbine apart is its unexpected and delicious Thai-inspired menu. Each dish is bursting with flavour, and it's clear that the kitchen takes pride in its creations. Coupled with an extensive beer selection that caters to all tastes, you're guaranteed a delightful culinary experience. Alyssa, our server, was incredibly knowledgeable about the dishes, and her recommendations were spot-on. Her service, along with the efficient and friendly bar staff, made our evening truly enjoyable. It's worth noting that the Woodbine is popular for a reason, and on evenings, it's wise to reserve a table to avoid disappointment. The only minor critique would be the music selection, which could perhaps be a bit more varied to enhance the overall atmosphere. Despite that small point, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Woodbine and will definitely be returning. It's a fantastic pub that successfully blends a traditional, cosy feel with modern,...
Read moreThere is nothing Irish about this pub. Been coming here since before it re-opened in 2007 and was mostly a decent pub with good, friendly staff. Recent months it's become a bit of a dive. Very young, inexperienced staff who don't clear the tables, have no customer skills, and, even worse, can't pour a decent Guinness! Let's hope this is a glitch...
Edit: Your arrogant response says a lot. I've been drinking here since 1989. It was closed for maybe a decade, but re-opened as my favourite pub in Highbury. 2003? I thought it was 2005, but someone else told me 2007. I'm getting old so my memory is a bit hazy at times. I may be wrong with the date but how can my review be inaccurate?
Under Adrian and Fiona it was a fantastic pub, he continues to make the Bank of Friendship a close rival. In recent years Emma has been in charge and it continued to be the best pub in the area. If things are starting to slide, you need to take notice. Not dismiss an honest review from someone who's drank in the Woodbine since before many of your customers and...
