I've been coming to Wong Kei's for over 33 years, and can safely say that it is a family favourite!

The food is always delicious, with our favourites being Brisket Beef Noodle Soup, Won Ton Noodle Soup, Char Siu BBQ Pork, Roast Belly of Pork, BBQ Spare Ribs, Sesame Prawn Toast, Beef Ho Fun (dry), and Crispy Noodles with Mixed Seafood. In fact, you absolutely can't go wrong with any BBQ meat with either rice or in a noodle soup.

I've always found the staff friendly, helpful, and efficient. As a Londoner, I'm always in a rush. I know that with Won Kei's, I can walk in on my own, be seated downstairs, order a bowl of noodle soup, and have it in front of me all within 5 minutes. I can eat and be out in under 30 minutes and be on my way. Perfect for if you're on a work lunch break. That is definitely fast food. However, if you're there with a group, they'll seat you upstairs where you can take your time, order many dishes & drinks, have good conversation, and spend a couple of hours eating & drinking.

Whether it's a quick bite whist out shopping in the West End, a quick lunch break, a post theatre meal, or a birthday celebration with family, we always head to Wong Kei's when in the area. We even use them for take-away.

I always pick up a couple of portions of Char Siu BBQ Pork (uncut) to take-away keep in the freezer for emergency dinners as it's my boys favourite meal. I will also sometimes travel from Holloway Road to Leicester Square and back again, just to pick up a take-away order of noodle soup when for me and my husband when we're craving it for our lunch at work. I can get there and back, and eat it, all in under an hour.

If you're looking for good, reasonably priced Chinese food when near Chinatown, or the West End in general, I would highly recommend heading to Wong Kei's. Just remember,...

What an absolute dive!!! I foolishly gave it a go on the strength of a post I saw on Instagram. People described the place as “an institution” and praised it for its rough service but amazing food and great value for money. I was sold! I had been meaning to visit for the past six months or so and finally found time this weekend gone. What an absolutely disgusting experience! The restaurant is filthy, and the small amount of food I did taste was bland, like shockingly bland. One of my dishes was a quarter crispy duck, the meat on the plate was not from the bone that was served with it. It looked as though my plate was compiled of left overs from another plate. I would put money on it in fact. I left all my food and paid the bill. The waiter didn’t bat an eyelid when I asked to square up without having made a dent in a single dish. I have absolutely no doubt that the untouched plates that sat on my table for the 10 minutes I stared at them in disbelief, would have been re-served to another diner later that evening. The staff are some of the most openly unhygienic I have ever come across in a restaurant. An old guy working in the window handling noodles with his bare hands coughed phlegm into his hand, which was evident by the string of thick saliva between his palm and mouth when he pulled his hand away. I had already noticed him excessively handling the noodles, but decided that as long as his hands were clean it wasn’t really the end of the world. However, seeing him cough into his hand shortly after was like a sign from God if I needed one!! My wife also witnessed a female member of staff exit a toilet cubicle and walk straight out without washing her hands. This was all within a 20 minute window and in plain site, so I can only imagine what goes on out of site. Do not waste your time or money,...

Absolutely heartbreaking 💔 to write this review. I have been loyal and always came to Wong Kei for 40 years and for the past 10 years I have started noticing the rudeness of the staff but nothing compared to the rudeness of one waitress with short dark blondish bobbed hair, roughly in her mid 50's-60 years old, on Thursday 20th June at about 10.30pm. We had just finished watching a show and were starving, so thought we would go on my birthday to my favourite Wong Kei. My husband and I got shown to our table opposite the toilets and as soon as we sat down, the waitress I mentioned wanted to know what we wanted, didn't even give us a chance to look at the menu. I said my husband is looking and the waitress replied "we're closing soon" in an annoyed tone, walked off then kept pacing around our table basically to say hurry up and order. My husband felt rushed, felt like he couldn't look at the menu and just said "I'll have what you're having" She took our order, then came back not even a minute later and said "you're not ordering anymore food" then walked off. The closing time for Wong Kei is 11.30pm so we had an hour before closing time. Noodles arrived very quick but was basically thrown at us. My favourite meal was salty and lacked any other flavour. The waitress was pacing up and down by our table again basically to hurry us up. After we finished which was 20mins later, we couldn't wait to leave, waitress cleared our table literally as soon as we put our chopsticks down. First time ever we have given no tip and we have never experienced such rudeness. With Chinatown filled with lots of restaurants, Wong Kei's staff need to learn to be alot more respectful to it's customers because after that, I'm never coming back here and I will give my money to a restaurant...

Cost efficient place to sit down, eat, then move on to your next destination. Like most Asian places the staff here are indifferent, they are not friendly and will come off abrupt. Some food items were superb and some below average, it’s about knowing what to order. The Ho Fun (flat rice noodle) in the soup is superb. Ho Fun noodles are chewy, bouncy in texture, yet extremely soft. The alternative to Ho Fun is egg noodles, which texture and taste wise was below average. Order the Ho Fun noodles instead of the egg noodles and you won’t regret. We paired our noodles with beef brisket, wontons, duck & char siu: Beef brisket was extremely tender and flavourful. I enjoyed it, but it is from a very fatty cut of the cow, so you will see a thick layer of oil in the soup because of it. Wontons, save your money and don’t order it. You can simply look at the photos and you know they won’t be good. Wonton wrapper is extremely thick and you’ll be chewing on a mouth full of flour. We wouldn’t of picked this but the server was rushing us to place our order. Duck was dry, not tender, lacked flavour and lacked the distinct saltiness on the underside you usually get when eating duck. The char siu had bright red dye on the outer edges and was dry, maybe if you ordered 半胖瘦 (half fat half lean, HK favourite) it would be better in texture. If I were ever to go back I would just order a bowl of Beef Brisket Ho Fun noodles and skip the other pairings as their BBQ meats and wonton are below average.
