Restaurant Review: French Pantry, Ludlow
Stepping into @thefrenchpantryludlow in Ludlow, we immediately felt the quaint charm of this delightful French bistro. Our visit was a bit impromptu, but luck was on our side. After leaving our number, we were fortunate enough to secure a table for lunch. Given its limited seating, we’d strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Starters What else would you choose to start in a French bistro other than the classic French Onion Soup?Complete with crispy croutons and melted cheese, this soup was everything we could imagine and more, a perfect appetizer or a light lunch on its own. Ooo la la!
Main Courses We stuck to traditional French dishes with Moules Marinière accompanied by French fries and crusty bread. The portion of mussels was so generous that even between the two of us, we couldn’t finish it all. The garlic cream sauce with shallots was a delight, and the crusty bread was ideal for mopping up every last drop.
Venison served with garlic potatoes and a green pepper sauce. Rich and hearty, this dish was a true winner, and the garlic potatoes were a must-try.
The French Pantry boasts a charming and quirky interior that perfectly complements the historic atmosphere of Ludlow. It’s a small, charming restaurant that offers a cozy dining experience.
In summary, our visit to the French Pantry was a delightful culinary adventure, and we can’t wait to return. Bon appétit!...

Lovely cosy restaurant, dog friendly as long as your dog isn't large (the restaurant is small) and pleasant staff. Food was delicous, piping hot (almost too hot!) classic french dishes cooked well. However, portion sizes were so large we both couldn't finish our main courses (we are massive foodies and my husband eats a lot so this is saying something!) as the dishes were so overwhelming in size (cassoulet and cod basquaise) - could have been half the size and we'd have been happy! Staff seemed unsure about ingredients and descriptions of dishes when asked. Overall a great meal out and excellent value for money considering the portions, but be warned you might not be able to manage dessert! Will return if...
Read moreWe made only one mistake! We could only book a table at 7.45 pm which meant we didn't eat till about 8.30. (We are elderly and eating rich food late at night is not a good idea!) That said, the food was rich and tasty and huge (I mean really huge!) portions. We had a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet which was truly memorable. I began with cod cheeks with moules in bouillabaisse sauce which was fantastic. My wife had crab mousse in bouillabaisse sauce, also excellent, with loads of cream. For our main course we both chose Coq au Vin, absolutely impossible to eat it all. Excellent again. For some reason they served this with pommes frites which we did not eat. Food was authentically salty and rich. Not cheap, but worth the money; but take my advice, visit at lunch time or...
