Disappointing morning today, where there was a clear disparity between how the visitors sat in the garden, and visitors sat in the front area were received. Evidently those sat in the garden were more of a priority. My table and two others in the front area were largely left to it, causing the table next to us to actually complain, and my table having to rush out to feed the parking meter down the road, part way through our food! We had asked on arrival how long two breakfasts would take, already aware and totally understanding of a busy morning: and we were told 15-20 minutes. It was actually 45 minutes, and including the total time we were sat there for was in actual fact an hour. So the wait time given was misleading and did not accurately represent the situation. By this point we were no longer understanding. If it was honestly stated around 45 minutes we could have made alternative arrangements. The drinks came, though that order was wrong and meant for someone else. Then by the time the food came it was luke warm, and quite disappointing; not really filling the plate, lacking substance, and we had to rush out halfway through to quickly put another coin in the parking meter. The already luke warm food was then essentially cold. The table next to us had been waiting over an hour as well. The bill came to nearly £40 for two drinks and two breakfasts which sadly was not accurately reflected in the service or the food. Notwithstanding the fact the ladies were agreeable, pleasant and polite, of which I emphasise there is no issue - the whole morning was not enjoyable at all. By the time we'd spent most of the visit feeling flurried around, we wished we'd have gone home. The unfortunate reality is the prices are simply far above and beyond what is being provided, and would understandably be quite off putting for any possibility for a future visit. The visit did not meet customer expectations in any regard on this occasion and it was a surprise to note the establishment was clearly not prepared suitably in advance for a bank holiday weekend in a...
Read moreI had an absolutely fantastic lunch here with my partner. She had the veggie burger - a generous size with a lovely springy burger, fresh taste and generous on Halloumi with a lovely dressed salad and creamy coleslaw. Fresh and very tasty. I had the coconut and ginger daal which was beautifully spiced and warming, with coconut flakes, a fluffy naan and perfectly cooked cauliflower which added a buttery creaminess to it. The crispy kale on top could have been a bit crispier but was delicious. A drizzle of chutney or citrus for some acidity and tartness would have made this flawless.
The drinks were lovely - a tart apple and damson juice that like everything here, is sourced locally. The quality of all ingredients was impeccable. Service was also excellent and the restaurant was roomy, light and rustic. The selection of deserts was fantastic and I wish we had been able to stay longer for one.
We will both...
Read moreTwo visits over two weeks with family of four. Very nice place, garden out back is wonderful, quiet and secluded. We had the Haloumi burger (mine with bacon) and others had the Fish plate and the Cauli/Haloumi dish. All were good, could have done with a little more Haloumi on the burgers - seems like portion sizes were down, probably due to the rush caused by concerts in the castle (Elbow). Also my daughter said the Cauliflower dish could have used a little more cooking. These are just notes, the food was good and if anything I recommend spending the additional £1.50 for the bacon on the burger! Waitresses were attentive, even though rushed a little. Toilet was clean beverage...
