Very slow and confused service (our order was taken to other customers who arrived a few mins after us), drinks that we ordered were not brought, the waitresses needed prompting to remember to bring drinks that had been ordered, the wrong drinks were served, the wrong food was served). After 2 hours all of the ordered dishes hadn't been served and we had to leave for the theatre. I cannot comment on the deserts as we didn't get that far! Over the evening we were served by three waitresses. At one point one of the waitresses was sent to our table to perform a verbal Seppuku explaining that it was all her fault etc (to the embarrassment of all concerned). What kind of manager sends out a young probably minimum wage employee to do that?
In the terms of the quality of the food the vegetarian small plates were served towards the end of the meal and were on the whole simply awful (beetroot under-seasoned and bland (ok if you are into a plate of par boiled beetroot), lettuce and ricotta (drenched in poor quality olive oil sprinkled with a few peas), baby leeks burnt the point of being tough and inedible. The mushroom and bean dish was well cooked. The sea bream ceviche was over-seasoned and just tasted of salt. They initially provided a full bill (removing the burnt food and the plates that hadn't been served), however, reconsidered and just charged us for the drinks.
Just to clarify the review - the person that apologised introduced herself as our waitress not as a manager. Indeed, she stated that she needed to check things with her manager/ the owner. We didn't assume anything based on her gender! The view on her response to us was shared by all of the party - all of whom have had very senior managerial responsibility. The response from one of the female guests was - "well that was embarrassing who made her do that".
Do we think the owner should have dealt with this directly without hiding in the kitchen? Absolutely. If your team doesn't perform to this extent then you 'carry the can' and sort it out. Did we want or expect a male owner to come out - not in your wildest dreams.
I would add that the people most incensed by the quality of the food, service, and the ineptness of the response were the female members of the party. They were the ones who questioned the bill and discussed this with your staff. Clearly you haven't reviewed what happened with your staff.
My own involvement on the day was to attempt to eat the food, apologise to my partner who wasn't able to eat anything (because it was either inedible or the food she wanted to eat and had ordered didn't arrive), feel very sorry for the serving staff, and be deeply embarrassed that I had recommended the restaurant.
I am appalled that your response to the review was to attempt to smear the reviewer not to contact the reviewer to understand more about their...
Read moreI recently visited 10 Tib Lane to celebrate my 25th birthday for the Sunday menu, and while there were some standout moments, the overall experience left a bit to be desired.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a complimentary tasting glass of champagne, which was a lovely touch and set a pleasant tone for the evening. The service, particularly from our waitress, was great—she was friendly, understanding, and genuinely one of the highlights of the evening. However, the rest of the experience was a mixed bag.
Unfortunately, a major disappointment was the fact that the dry-aged steak, which had been the main reason for our visit, was sold out by 6pm. Given the limited menu with only five mains (I think) on offer, this felt like a significant letdown. On top of that, the wine service could have been better—our glasses went unrefilled despite being empty for some time, especially considering the hefty markup on the wine (more than 2.5x the Amazon RRP).
To start, the oysters were a great choice. At a reasonable price, they were fresh and enjoyable, a solid way to begin the meal. The beignets were another highlight, though a bit of a surprise as they were incredibly cheesy. While they were tasty, the richness was unexpected. The salami, priced at £14, didn’t justify the cost—it was underwhelming and the accompanying pickled veg didn’t taste properly aged, just like wet vinegar.
The mains were a bit of a mixed bag. The roast potatoes were disappointing, coming out rock-hard. The Yorkshire pudding was similarly off—stale and overcooked. On the other hand, the pork was tender and well-cooked, and the cauliflower cheese was fine.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere was affected by a loud table nearby. A member of staff was sitting with friends frequently, engaging in shots and causing a disruption. It created a sense of unprofessionalism, especially in a setting where you'd expect a more refined dining experience. The general atmosphere was quite loud with music and not a cosy and personal as it looks online.
In conclusion, 10 Tib Lane wasn’t bad, but some key areas—like consistency in food quality, wine service, and overall ambiance—need attention. The friendly service and thoughtful touches, like the champagne, helped salvage the evening, but given the price point, it's hard to overlook the...
Read moreFirstly my photos are rubbish and don't capture the food as well as it should. Also, I forgot to take photos of the full sea bream in champagne sauce, or the bone marrow served with Pommes Anna, we just got too hungry and forgot!
Pig's Head croquette - wonderfully crispy on the outside, with a strong fatty pork flavour which I loved, outstanding! Bone Marrow with Pommes Anna - juicy, delicate, and the mouth feel of the fat coating your tonuge - gorgeous. Needed the salty pommes anna alongside for the perfect mouthful. Charred Hispi cabbage - a nice bitterness and complemented by the deep sauce. Beef shin and kidney rarebit pudding - a stodgy big portion, but the suet was light and crumbly, deep meaty flavours with the kidney not overpowering. This was a meal on its own! Roast duck with port sauce - perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. Sea Bream - whole sea bream which was perfectly roasted, champagne sauce was perhaps a little rich for us by then, but the chive oil did help to balance that out. House fries - nice, but we were stuffed so not really needed!
No real complaints, it was busy and we hadn't booked, so we had to sit at the bar which wasn't the most comfortable. The food comes out as its ready which means we were left with the sea bream and fries at the end - would have been better if the order of dishes could have been rearranged, but anyway, this was a great meal. Including three soft drinks, only £92 for all that incredible food!
Definitely need...
