While the staff were lovely, I have had an abhorrent time at Bold Street Coffee Shop on University Green. I do like the slightly alternative aesthetic of the café, and the artwork hung on the walls is great fun. And while the Wi-Fi is acceptable, the mobile signal in here is dire.
If you're looking for a public place to study or get some work done, this is not the place. While moderate noise is to be expected, and while we are a university campus, the volume of the music does not need to be so high. I'm here to study; not dance. I do appreciate the early 2000s indie sleaze band The Strokes, but they are more apt for a dance floor as opposed to a café. Incidentally, while I was managing to do some work here, I happened to find out that my friend's Flixbus coach had shipped his suitcase that he had left behind to Budapest. He had travelled from London, UK to Manchester, UK. So this further negated from my experience, as this put me in a foul mood, as I suddenly became aware of the great injustice that is constantly at play in our world.
Finally, and, to be honest, MOST IMPORTANTLY, my time in the loo solidified my never returning here. When attempting to wash my hands, I realised that the excuse of a bottle of soap had been filled with about a fifth of soap, and the rest of the bottle with tap water. I then rinsed this scented water from my hands and tried to dry them underneath the hand dryer. It was here I realised that the hand dryer was in fact broken and I had to leave the toilet without having successfully dried my hands. For a place that is serving food to not have anywhere near satisfactory levels of hygiene in the toilets is quite a worry, if you ask me.
However, I would like to reiterate that the staff made this experience ever so slightly more bearable, as they actually consoled my friend as he broke down about his now intercontinental suitcase. Great job,...
Read moreLet me start by saying this place provides without doubt the best breakfast sandwiches in town, the nicest scrambled eggs, and their butties are unreal.
The guy behind the counter every Friday morning is also WITHOUT DOUBT, the rudest most condescending person in Manchester. I came last Friday, just as they opened and I walked in to him asking me to leave, because he was still waiting for staff to come in. I politely said that the weather is bad and could i just wait inside - this was met with a very begrudging yes making me feel as if I was asking him a very intrusive question. He was then very rude in taking my order, I even tried to make a light joke that I asked for something incorrectly.
I then came today (Friday 17th) and the same again - I walked in at 8.05 and he said that they he was waiting for staff again, I asked to wait inside which he begrudgingly said yes to but said that i would need to wait while staff were coming in. I accidentally knocked something off the table smashing the glass container of the condiments. Straight away I apologised to the girl who came to clean it and offered to help clear it, she was very polite and took over. Then the guy came over, stressed, in a mood and literally looked at me and said "thanks for that". Even the girl looked at me as if to say "sorry for his outburst". I then waited as i could see they were setting up, to which the guy behind the counter now shouted at me "Are you going to come up here order or what?" - I looked at him as if to say "no one has said anything" and he rudly said "come on, hurry up" - I walked out and didnt even bother to order.
Such a lovely place, great food and the staff apart from that guy is spot on. Whoever that guy is, he is really letting...

A client bought a gift card as a gift however i was unable to use the gift card. On my first attempt i was told that the gift cards can be hit and miss, which is laughable to start with. It did not work and was told to try a couple weeks later. I tried a couple weeks later again no luck.
I contacted bold and ‘head of operations’ replied asking for my gift card no. Which I provided. Heard nothing after this for a week where I sent an email to chase, again no luck I had to threaten with contacting trading standards as there was no resolution to sorting the gift card so at this point looked like a scam. Following this email I was replied to promptly with a poor excuse of internet was dropping in and out is why the gift card was not working. Surely if this was the case in a coffee shop in the centre of Manchester , internet dropping in and out, it would be picked up on much sooner than this.
I am a daily customer at the spinningfield branch where the staff are great and make great coffee.
I wont be visiting any bold branch after my dealings with Kirstie the head of operations absolutely no sincerity or loyalty in her communication it is like talking...
