Travel days can often feel stressful, rushed, and a little overwhelming, but my recent stop at Joseph Holt in Manchester Airport turned what could have been a hectic morning into an unexpectedly enjoyable and relaxing experience. The reason for this was simple: the excellent service I received from Kelvin. From the moment I stepped up to the bar to when I left, he showed the kind of professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail that makes a lasting impression.
I started by ordering a bacon and egg sandwich and a pint of Magners. What could have been just a routine airport bite turned into something far better thanks to Kelvin. He served the sandwich hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked – the bacon was crisp without being dry, the egg soft but not runny, and the bread warm and lightly toasted. For something that’s often considered a simple breakfast option, it was done exactly right. The care in its preparation was noticeable, and Kelvin presented it with a smile that instantly put me at ease.
Then came the pint of Magners. It might seem like a straightforward order, but here again, Kelvin went above and beyond. The glass was perfectly chilled, the cider poured with precision, and there was that little touch of attention – ensuring it was served at just the right temperature – that made it all the more refreshing. In an airport environment where speed often takes priority over quality, this really stood out.
What struck me most about Kelvin was his attitude. He wasn’t just serving food and drinks; he was genuinely making sure customers felt welcome. He asked how my day was going, made friendly conversation without being intrusive, and created an atmosphere that felt more like a favourite local pub than a busy airport bar. In a place where people are often stressed, tired, or in a rush, that kind of warmth and hospitality makes all the difference.
Kelvin also managed to balance efficiency with quality service. Despite the bar being busy, he never seemed flustered. He was attentive to each guest, remembering orders, keeping the area tidy, and making sure people were happy with what they’d been served. Watching him work, it was clear that he genuinely cares about the standard of service he provides, and that reflects brilliantly on Joseph Holt as a whole.
The overall experience left me not only satisfied but impressed. The sandwich and drink were spot-on, but it was Kelvin’s friendly professionalism that turned an ordinary airport meal into something memorable. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that if every member of staff in the hospitality industry brought the same level of care and positivity to their role as Kelvin did, customer service standards everywhere would be raised.
I’ll definitely be returning to Joseph Holt next time I’m travelling through Manchester Airport, and I’ll be hoping to see Kelvin behind the bar again. He represents the brand exceptionally well, and he deserves recognition for the outstanding service...
Read moreHello, this is one of few one star reviews I have ever written but the Bridgewater Exchange throughly deserves it. Firstly, there is a 20 min queue to get into the restaurant. Not unusual for Terminal 2 as its size and food/drink facilities are inadequate for the capacity of flights and passengers passing through. But that alas is a different story. Once in the restaurant it was Bar Service with a very limited menu. I, as well as others queued for 1 hour to order food. Which was bad enough, but I witnessed a conversation between a customer and a supervisor. When asked "can you not help with the ordering at the bar" she replied " I'm not behind the bar, I'm supervising" Raised some eyebrows and brings into question the calibre of the management here. Surely, if the queue for the bar is 1 hour, it would be all hands to the pump? Well not in this ladies case. So I eventually get to order my food and drink. I ordered a burger with chips and some beans. Told "beans don't come with that!" I asked if I could have a side? The bartender replied "No!" Well I'm sure that could be accommodated but clearly not as it was off the limited menu. My drinks, a pint and coffee were served in a plastic cup (beer) and paper cup (cofffe). The bartenders attitude, whilst not bad, wasn't good either more like a "meh, take it or leave it pal" Then my food came after 20 mins which was good but underwhelming in appearance and taste. I asked for a knife and folk, which I was directed to obtain myself. Not an issue normally but there was an emty cutlery can on my table, clearly indicating it wasnt stocked anytime in the afternoon. Other things I noticed was staff chatting and nor addressing any of the service issues mentioned, tables nor cleared for a long time and concerned customers getting brushed off. Personally, if you're visiting T2 at Manchester Airport. Avoid the stress and disappointment. Bring your own sandwiches or opt for a boots meal...
