Visited this place after seeing it recommended on MCR Finest YouTube channel. It's one of my favourite channels for restaurants so I was really expecting great things!
The place itself is very small...located right next to Burnage train station it has 2 or 3 tables available outside and 4 or 5 tables inside. But that's not a negative in my book...it was very clean and minimalist inside...and it was the food I was there for!
I visited with my mum and my daughter.
My mum doesn't go to Indian restaurants. She isn't a Reform supporter...she doesn't go because she is Indian and a great cook...so she is a tough judge!
My daughter doesn't like Indian restaurants either...she's probably not a Reform supporter either...but she prefers Italian and Japanese food...so she's also a tough judge!
We ordered a lot of food...samosa chaat and pani puri for mum...Gobi Manchurian for daughter...lamb chops and seekh kebab for me.
Followed by lamb shank Rogan Josh (recommended by MCR Finest) and butter chicken...with pilau rice, roti and laccha paratha.
Unfortunately...apart from the samosa chaat and pani puri which were both very good...everything else was really mediocre.
Nothing was awful...but there wasn't a single dish that could be described as very good. I've had far better seekh kebabs and lamb chops in many Pakistani restaurants in Manchester. The lamb shank Rogan Josh was also ok without being great...and the butter chicken was a typical average dish you can get from any takeaway.
The rice and roti were good...but the laccha paratha was a real letdown. Not flaky and crispy at all...just a regular paratha really.
All the staff were lovely...but the place was empty and we had to ask for drinks and ice refills rather than being asked. No big deal...but not great either.
Overall I wanted this place to be a lot better...

My girlfriend and I had a phenomenal dining experience tonight. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing.
We shared the Chana Masala and the Malwani Fish Curry, both served with fluffy pilau rice. The Chana Masala was a symphony of chickpeas in a rich, flavourful tomato gravy. Each bite was bursting with warm spices and perfectly cooked chickpeas. The Malwani Fish Curry was a revelation – the fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection, bathed in a vibrant curry melange that had a delightful hint of heat. Both curries were absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect for sharing.
Overall, Chef Platters is a hidden gem. The food is authentic, bursting with flavour, and cooked with expertise. The service is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu –...
Read moreA cosy little licensed restaurant on Fog Lane near Burnage station offering great value, excellent service and a wide variety of Indian and some Indo Chinese dishes. As someone who is from a South Asian heritage am struggling to understand some of the five star reviews here. The food itself is very highly spiced and reminiscent of a 1970's/80's curry house, it will be repeating on you well in to the following day. The naanwich claimed to be invented by chef Singh is simply a seekh kebab wrapped in a chapati. I've been doing that since I was a kid! The kebab is highly spiced so it is impossible to tell what meat it is, if it is meat at all. The Indo Chinese food is deep fried and served in a sweet and sour sauce that tastes as if it has come out of a jar. If you want an authentic curry in Manchester I can think of far better...
