I recently dined at Kabul Restaurant and was genuinely impressed by the experience from start to finish. The restaurant provides an inviting atmosphere with warm, traditional Afghan decor that sets the stage for a meal that feels both exotic and welcoming.
The star of the show, of course, is the food. Each dish I tried was a delightful blend of rich, aromatic spices and fresh ingredients. The kabobs were perfectly grilled – tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The qabuli palaw, a traditional Afghan rice dish with raisins and carrots, was a highlight, balancing sweet and savory flavors beautifully.
The appetizers, including their sambosas and mantu (steamed dumplings), were flavorful and hinted at the depth of the cuisine’s heritage. For dessert, the sheer yakh (Afghan ice cream) was a sweet and creamy finish that left a memorable impression.
The staff at Kabul Restaurant were attentive and friendly, providing excellent service that made us feel valued as customers. They were also more than happy to explain the dishes and recommend specialties based on our preferences.
Overall, Kabul Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore authentic Afghan cuisine or simply enjoy a meal that’s as comforting as it is unique. I left with a full stomach and the desire to return soon to try even more of their menu....
Read moreWe had a really disappointing experience here. While the starters were fine and the general staff were friendly, the main course (karahi) came out undercooked, with the chicken smelling off. When we politely raised the issue with the floor manager, instead of handling it professionally, he became extremely defensive. He insisted on taking the dish back to "re-cook," but it returned even worse.
When we then asked for the dish to be cancelled, we were met with arguments and told we were wrong, despite it being very obvious the food wasn’t fresh and was badly prepared. What made it even more uncomfortable was having to argue in front of other customers, even though I initially pulled the manager aside to keep it discreet.
Unfortunately, the floor manager’s attitude completely ruined the experience. He showed no understanding of basic customer service, and shockingly even told us to leave a bad review because he didn’t care.
It’s a shame, because the rest of the team seemed pleasant, but the manager’s approach was unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, an unbelievably...
Read moreI ordered the charsi chicken curry and mantu—two classics I was actually excited about. What I got was a culinary crime scene.
The charsi chicken curry looked like someone had spilled orange motor oil over a microwaved chicken carcass. The chicken itself? Dry, stringy, and somehow managed to be tough and slimy at the same time. The sauce was greasy, flavorless, and had the distinct aftertaste of “what went wrong?”
Then came the mantu—and I use that word lightly. Real mantu are delicate, savory dumplings topped with yogurt and lentils. These were soggy little pouches of mystery meat, drowning in what tasted like expired sour cream mixed with paste. I couldn’t tell if they were overcooked, undercooked, or just never meant to be eaten at all.
Even the naan—how do you mess up naan?—was cold, stiff, and tasted like it had been air-dried in a dusty closet.
I would...
