Right, I don't know what's going on here but, thus place is not in Wilmslow Rd and it isn't the same place that you are seeing in the pictures here. We went here this morning for a nihari because nihari is the best breakfast on the planet and also, our usual haunt is closed during Ramadam!!! I had seek kebab starter, lamb nihari, naan bread and a mango Rubicon. I can not complain about the food. It was excellent. The seek kebabs were cooked fresh upon ordering and came with a nice little salad and a tray of half n half sauce. The naan was also baked upon ordering and was piping hot and soft and pillowy. I prefer a more harshly cooked naan with big old burnt bubbles on it but, that's a personal preference, this naan was still top notch. The nihari was also, excellent. I've had lots of nihari's over the years and this one was good. Plenty of lamb in there and clearly slow cooked over a long long time. It just falls apart. I didn't see any bone marrow but I'm sure it's in there due to the gelatinous texture of the gravy. They also ask how spicy you like it. Which is a nice touch. The spiciness will relate to how many freshly chopped green chillies they throw in there. So, all in all, the food was excellent and I would happily eat it again. However, I wouldnt HAPPILY, pay for it again. This place is not very competitive from a price point, point of view. My usual haunt in Longsight, a mile or two down the road comes in at under a tenner and its to die for. This breakfast was over £14!!! Which is a bit steep, in my humble opinion. But hey, the food is good. So of your stuck for a nutritious, delicious, fulfilling and life giving breakfast during Ramadam, then this is your spot. If it's not during Ramadam, get yourself to Lahori in...
Read moreRight, where do I start.... My husband (who is Pakistani) and I (Lithuanian) stopped here after being busy all day to eat something before we set off back home to London. My brother in law said ''go to Wilmslow rd to eat, its a lovely Asian food road''... We saw Lal Qila and thought to give it a go as it probably looked quite alright from outside comparing with the rest of the street (trust me, we are not even fussy!). I guess coming from London the difference is just too steep. No hello, no good bye, no thank you, no please-customer service was dreadful to say the least! One of the server looked like just off the bed, and when came to collect dirty dishes from table, it seemed as he just had a nibble in the kitchen-his beard was dirty and he was still chewing on it and cleaning his beard while waiting us... God, I just felt sick of the whole view! Another server walked up in dirty uniform, again-no communication whatsoever. We felt not like customers, but as we were doing them a huge favour by eating there. It felt like we were so unwanted and looked down (is that to do with me being white, they should probably ask themselves a question...) If you are about to go there and intend to have a milkshake-please change your mind immediately! Get milkshake from McDonald's and take it there-you will thank me for this, trust me. It was only milk with probably a dash of chocolate Monin syrup out of blender. Absolutely horrendous. I make it far better at home for my kids! This place needs a good thorough clean and some staff training up in most even basic London restaurants, plus better management. We will definitely not be coming back...
Read moreThis was our fourth choice restaurant when visiting the curry mile as there was a waiting time of 30 mins + for the others. The food and service was so bad I felt compelled to write a review. Being of Asian origin, I am very familiar with good Indian food. Furthermore, I have sampled a very large number of restaurants from business trips so have a wide range to compare against.
We ordered a lal qila mixed grill (£7.90) to share. The portion was barely enough for one person and was not sizzling when it arrived. Really poor value for money.
We then ordered lamb tikka biryani (£8.90) lamb Karahi (£7.00 approx) and some nan bread. Thank god we did not order more.
The biryani was not a biryani. It was basically left over rice and stale meat curry mixed together. The sauce provided was onion stock, thickened up. The lamb karahi again had stale meat and was a child portion. We ordered a jug of coke. It arrived in a jug with ice filling half the jug. (£6.95).
When the bill arrived, due to the bad food, I looked to see if a service charge had been automatically added. I enquired about a £1.00 GBP charge on the bill. Apparently this was for popaddoms, which we had not ordered nor had received. Not only do these people rip people off on food, they're also appeared to be dishonest in their billing.
It amazes me this restaurant is in business. What we were served is a disgrace to indian food. I suspect regulars don't know any better and others went in by accident/chance and will never return. My family and I are...
