With someone who suffers with celiac disease I’ve always been reassured and taken care of without any reactions when visiting Sanskruti! I’ve always been welcomed kindly whether that be takeaway or dining in! This is what used to set sanskruti aside from everyone else.
Sadly on this occasion this is was not the case. I always add on my booking about being gluten and lactose free to give the restaurant a heads up before coming in. I arrived with my friends… I was asked if I had any allergen… I mentioned my celiac disease and the reply I received was almost like I was being told off. Sternly the waiter said “you cannot eat here, you have to go” it was said in such a manner I felt embarrassed as other tables heard and it made me feel rather embarrassed. He later on proceeded to say in a loud tone “you cannot eat here!” - I tried to ask the waiter “if this was the case then why i have been made to feel so welcome and taken care of on the plenty other occasions I have visited and why hasn’t anyone called me ahead to let me know”
At my own risk I decided to stay but nonetheless it set the tone for the rest of the evening and ruined the mood a little. Throughout the meal we weren’t asked if the food was ok and wasn’t checked in on at all. This is so far away from the service I’ve previously received in the past and honestly I don’t think I want to return.
I hate leaving bad reviews but it’s just a bit of advise for others visiting with allergens or food sensitivities because they do advertise allergens really well on the menu. At the end of the evening payment was taken by another member of staff which so happened to be the manager on shift. We were asked if everything was ok probably because we asked for service charge to be taken off the bill. We let the manager know of the situation to which he apologised.
Again it doesn’t make it easy for me to leave this review as I have only ever spoken highly of the restaurant in the past but maybe in future pay attention to notes left on bookings to let customers know in advance and for those who do suffer from illness or allergens I could only ask you treat this a little more sensitively than it was on my...
Read moreI am usually a huge fan of Sanskruti, and as a local vegan business owner I am constantly sending people down there, but I was left a little disappointed with my recent visit. The food was really good as I have always found to be the case, but unfortunately it was the service and knowledge of the staff which really let it down today. I have a tomato allergy, something which I know can be really difficult to accommodate, so I don’t mind at all if all I can have is bread. On a previous visit I was given a list of about 8 dishes I could order, plus some starters and sides, and felt really confident that they understood the menu and what I needed from them. On this occasion I asked a staff member who said he would go and check with the kitchen, then vanished for almost half an hour. In that time the rest of the table was asked to order, but I still had to wait. I had to explain twice to the staff member who took the table’s order that I was waiting to find out what I could have as he kept trying to take my menu. When the staff member did come back it seemed to me that he hadn’t actually spoken to anyone, and I ended up just ordering the dosa. When they brought mine out they made a point to say it had no tomato, which would have been a nice touch if someone hadn’t come over 5 minutes later to inform me that one of the sauces actually was tomatoey. Thankfully I hadn’t started eating yet as no one else had been served, but it was really disappointing that they got that so wrong. We also had to ask for tap water several times before it was brought over, weren’t offered any more drinks until the end of the meal, and at the end we were just brought the bill without even being offered a chance to look at the dessert menu. I really hope that next time I go I’m able to bump this score up as my previous experiences have...
Read moreAn great effort to introduce regional Indian dishes but lacks authentic flavour punch. Location: Easily accessible and close to the centre. Only drawback is it has no parking of it’s own but there’s a coop free parking just a minute away from the restaurant.
Service: The staff was attentive and provided a good service. Welcoming and quick service.
Rates: The prices are pretty much the standard rates but definitely not overpriced with each main within the range of £8 - £11. A large portion of starter, large portion of naan, 2 mains, portion of rice and papad costed us £50. The portion size is standard as well.
Food: Sharing tandoori platter was the highlight. Enjoyed the sizzling veggies giving an authentic tandoor flavour. Vegetable jaipuri & punjabi kadhi were good but didn’t stand out. I do regret not trying the gujarati menu which seemed like their speciality but the mains were strictly average. Madras nimbu paani was the one I had closest to what is served in India.
Drawback: I usually believe in tipping and rightly so one must but when I read the bill, a 10% service charge was added without consent and without the words optional against it. I do feel it’s a customers right to know it’s an optional charge and must be stated.
Overall: A good restaurant with a different menu which does set it apart from other...
