Sussex Arms — Restaurant in Mid Sussex

I'm not 'local' but try to visit at least once a month. Food is always good, their Veterans breakfast days are a great little fundraiser for Help for Heroes. Sports on the TV when required,live music at weekends and always quality covers bands, karaoke nights by the awesome Vivanne and 4 dartboards that are in good condition compared to most pubs that just put up their tatty boards unless it's a league night. The lighting around the dartboards are awesome and the cellar is well kept. I've never had a bad beer there. The staff are awesome. The landlord (Nick) and Amanda are always welcoming and always happy to help. They welcome familes and dogs and don't have a curfew for kids, welcome til closing time as long as they can behave. Just to add, pool table, decent garden area with cover in case of rain. Toilets in servicable condition. Never had any problems and the previous reputation under the last landlord is a thing of the past, a real community pub now and in my opinion it's the best in...

I can really recommend this place. I meet a friend here when I visit the town as it's easy to drive to and park in the huge pay car park opposite. Ignore any reviews more than a few months old as The Sussex is under great New Management. Nothing like it used to be. It's a quiet pub, ideal for drinking and chatting either inside the refurbished bar or in the pleasant garden which has a nice lawn and a cosy covered area. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant and the regulars seemed chatty too. The darts board was in use so we enjoyed a game of pool. I chose a nice cool lager and a Sunday roast and I must say both were really good but the food was exceptional. Good portions and served in good time. I recently went to the Sussex Arms and have to say that an amazing job the new owners have done. I have in the past avoided the place as it was a little uninviting BUT wow what a difference! Bright, lots of smiling faces and the food.... AMAZING. I mean the only pub I know for some distance to serve a ploughman's! The food was fresh, tasted great and the service was just great. I thanked Pete and Amy for an amazing experience and even the young lady behind the bar was so polite. Looks like the old-fashioned, friendly and welcoming pub is making a comeback with these guys!
