The restaurant downstairs was abysmal. The order we received for our mains was incorrect as they didn’t have the ingredients to make the full dish. However they failed to tell us this and just provided the food without all the toppings such as avocado and an egg. These toppings were the main part of the dish. When we asked about the dish, we were told that they don’t have the items, but that’s all they were able to provide. As we were in a rush to catch our train swapped meals with my other guest and they had the chicken burger which was overcooked on the chicken and was supposed to be given with a brioche bun. However, this was only a very hard, crusty and stale bun, which was definitely not brioche, no one attended to our table to even ask how the food was so we were unable to give more feedback. The chef advised they could make another dish for the incorrect making of the open BLT however, he continued to look at the computer screen. When we said we were change this for another dish. It took him over five minutes to even respond to us for that change, hence the reason to just swap the dishes.
After the meal, we spoke to the manager, and he agreed bun was not brioche. He took the price off that meal off the menu. However, he was unable to take off the main of the incorrect order due to it being consumed. However, I explained that the dish was provided without the ingredients stated on the menu and that should I have to pay for the meal which was inadequate. I should be charged less for the ingredients that weren’t on the dish. However he explained that it was still eaten and therefore he had to charge me, which I find ridiculous as they never told us about the missing ingredients and that they were able to not take the price off for them. The overall attentiveness of the staff in the kitchen and restaurant was disappointing and I would not recommend coming to this restaurant on any occasion. The toilets of the restaurant were also very dirty, as well as missing toilet paper in the Gentlemans toilet, it appears not to be cleaned from the night before.

I asked for a gluten-free menu which the greeter happily provided. Our assigned waiter arrived at the table and asked who the celiac was. This was a reassuring start. When I ordered I was sure to remind the waiter I was ordering off the gluten-free menu. I was surprised then when my food came with 3 fried onion rings, which were not listed on the gluten-free menu. I asked the waiter if they were gluten-free? It turns out, they were not! I was given a side dish to deposit them on.
We both ordered the meat sampler: 3 different steaks, rump, sirloin and fillet. If ordered individually, these steaks come with different cooking recommendations, however we were told that we couldn't order a different cook for each type of steak and had to pick one way to cook all 3. A steak house where you can't specify how you want the steaks cooked?!? Not a good start.
The "triple cooked in beef dripping" chips were disappointing. Barely crunchy and insipid in taste. I had 3 chips; my daughter had 2.
The sauce (mushroom and red wine) was surprisingly stingy. It came in a tiny, less than shot glass sized pot. If I'd ordered a single shot of neat vodka from the bar, I'd have got more fluid.
We asked for the bill, and were left waiting for 15 minutes, and had to ask again. An irritatingly basic waiter's error.
When the bill did come, the waiter then arrived with the card machine at the same time, and hovered over me. This meant I didn't have time to check the bill properly, and didn't spot that we'd been over charged. When ordering the starter, I made a point of mentioning I was ordering the "3 starters for £16" but this discount had not been applied and we were charged for 3 individual un-discounted starters, an overcharge of £5.50. This was refunded when pointed out.
Food wise, the starters and steaks were very nice. Other than my comments above, we were happy with the food.
Altogether a very disappointing visit for a restaurant that was less than half full on peak time Saturday so not busy.

Read more25/09/2024 - Ate here due to being on a business trip. I was on my own, went to the desk to get a table. The guy on the desk was lovely and explained there wasn’t one available therefore could I go back in 10 to 15 minutes. If I’d like to get a drink at the bar and wait. I returned after 15 mins, there was a man ahead of me in the queue. He asked for a table, this time it was the Manager, a rather large guy, with a beard. Unfortunately I didn’t get his name. He proceeded to tell the man there weren’t any tables available. He asked us both to go and wait, yet again for me in the bar area. I explained I had already been asked to wait 10 to 15 mins and to come back. At this point I had waited 25 mins and explained this to him. He then became rather rude and said, “no you haven’t,” arguing with me, “and anyway there is this lady and these 4 people ahead of you before you can have a table.” Pointing at other people in the bar area. He smirked sarcastically as he said it. Then walked away!!! Extremely rude. The man ahead of me in the queue turned to me and said, “ he’s extremely rude isn’t he?”to which I replied, “ yes, you call that Customer Service?” If my meal hadn’t of been pre-paid by work, I definitely would’ve found somewhere else to eat. The Manager made me feel extremely uncomfortable especially being on my own. I had travelled by car for 4 hours was tired and hungry. The food wasn’t great I wouldn’t go there again. The Eton Mess I ordered, the fruit was still frozen - hence I couldn’t eat it. All in all my customer service experience wasn’t a pleasant one. I wish I had the Manager’s name to be more precise.
