Read moreFirst time visiting Turtle Bay. Before going I've been given a mixture of reviews about the place. I can honestly say it was a bit of hit and miss for me personally. Though the cocktails were amazing I will be definitely coming back for the drinks. Even better they had a 2 for one offer on the cocktail. Kinda wish it was applied to the mocktails also as they were tasty to.
The food was nice but if you're expecting proper authentic Carribbean food it wasn't it. Though the dishes were good it tasted more like a Carribbean fusion as the dishes are inspired by them. But didn't give me true taste of the Carribbean.
I had ordered the salt fish fritters which was partnered with pineapples. Which initially I thought was odd but when I paired them together was interesting and took the edge of the saltiness of the fritter. Which was nice. Though the sweet chilli sauce added on top was a bit much for me personally. The main I ordered the fried fish which was crispy salmon. I've never had salmon cooked this way which was nice but I felt it was under seasoned.
Overall it was alright experience and reasonably priced. Though I felt the service could've been a bit better. When we arrived the first waiter said they would give us a menu and she never returned. Which resulted us to ask another server. Also the food took a while to come out. I would return but more for the drinks than the food. But glad I've...
Read moreCocktails are great, especially 2 for one! Jessie was amazing, very friendly and hospitable! I have visited that branch twice now and Jessie remembered us! Curried goat was surprisingly good! Coming from an authentic Caribbean background, I would say the chickpeas and roti wasn’t the taste I was used to having as I have only eaten it from authentic Trinidadian takeaways and from my Trini friends. Therefore the roti and chickpea curry for me was not authentic tasting enough for my tastebuds. The new menu is a great idea, food presentation was good and I loved the finely cut cabbage with calaloo and the sweet potato mash was very nice! However, the jerk pork and lamb was not seasoned enough for my caribbean tastebuds! I think it could be marinated longer as it did not taste like authentic jerk. When you eat jerk pork in Jamaica you can taste the flavour! On a whole the food is good but just some discrepancies on flavours. I don’t know if it is altered for the western palette but I feel if you are serving Caribbean food it should taste like home! Also I love calamari but I do not like the idea of the mayo be squirted over it by the chef . I think the calamari should be served as is with the slice of lemon/lime as not everybody likes mayo in their food and tbh I have never had calamari served to me with a sauce squirted over it….pls leave it on the side of the plate instead...
