Twice in one week, I left this restaurant hungry. We visited the restaurant last Sunday to celebrate our 30 year wedding anniversary. I left a review about that experience. Vasty called me to apologise for their performance and invited us back to make it right. I told her quite clearly, we were not prepared to spend any more money in that place. She said she was inviting us at no charge because she wanted to show us that they are better than what we experienced and perhaps I would be inclined to edit or change the negative review. After several calls, we reluctantly agreed we would give them another chance. Vasty promised a great evening with VIP treatment to make up for last time. When we arrived, we were seated and given 2 glasses of prosecco as promised in the call. We were asked if we wanted water for the table and we requested tap water with ice. I'm still waiting for the ice. to be clear, we ordered the same way that we would if we were paying. 2 scallop starters, I ordered black cod, my husband ordered the steak. The waitress returned with 1 starter. It had 3 small scallops with a flourish of what looked like Mari Rose sauce. She actually asked if we wanted an extra plate for sharing. We asked where the other starter was. That is when the fun began. Vasty came over, we thought to apologise for the mistake. Instead, she came to tell us how much our total food was costing them and she thought we were having 1 starter between us, and that this is a new restaurant and the bill was adding up. I hadn't even eaten one of the three tiny scallops! Truth be told, on the way to the restaurant, my husband and I had agreed that if they did a good meal we would pay. Instead, we were insulted and treated as if we were taking advantage of them. This must be why she tried to push the lamb on my husband, after telling him the Wagyu was sirloin instead of the ribeye stated on the menu. She told us how her boss/manager/whomever told her to just give us a £100 credit to get us in, but to her credit, she insisted that they should treat us to the meal. I should not have been told any of that. Needless to say, we left. Customer service is important. Vasty knew what it took to make the situation right but the one above her did not. Food in the restaurant is very important. It is the reason for a restaurant to exist. Serve what you want but inform the customers of a change before they order so they can choose accordingly. Reviews are also important. Mistakes happen but fix it properly. The one above Vasty is looking at the short term cost instead of the bigger consequences. A reputation is earned. I can't tell you what the scallops were like because the economic lecture made me lose my appetite. However, I can tell you they overcooked the bone marrow and used cheap lumpfish "caviar," and that deep fried prawn crackers are not a good pairing with the liquid fat they served me. I can tell you they don't remove the digestive tract from the prawns they put in the fried rice abomination they served instead of the rice plate described on the menu. I can tell you the menu is only a guideline for what you might get on your plate. This restaurant feels like it is either a tax shelter or just a bad idea. At best, this a is wannabe high end photo opportunity. The decor is rather nice. In reality, it is over priced a la carte mediocre fodder. As I said in my last review, the only thing Vietnamese is the name. Pan Asian? Nope. Waste of...
Read moreI’m not usually one for reviews but feel an honest one is due for this restaurant. We had dinner here recently for a birthday in a group of 8, were very excited to try the restaurant but left feeling pretty flat. We came in for our reservation around 19:00 and sat down to a half filled restaurant. We ordered some drinks and our table was full by 19:15 so again we ordered a round of drinks. The service for the drinks took longer than usual but the cocktails were very nice so some extra time waiting for a decent drink wasn’t an issue. We ordered our starters and main at 19:30 but had to wait an hour for the starters to come out. In between this time we had to try and single a staff member for attention to try and order another drink as no one attended the table with an update. When our starters finally come after us asking a waiter to check, they all came to the table except one. The starters were nice but nothing like the level of food quality and taste we would expect. My brother asked the waiter how long his food would be and after another 15 minutes of waiting and being asked 3 times what starter it was they ordered, it was finally brought out. At this point we asked for the mains to just be brought out rather than sit and wait for my brother to finish his starters as he felt rude. The main food came out pretty quickly after asking and we received our mains around 21:00, an hour and a half after ordering. Again the food was disappointing. The burger came out and was a dry patty squashed in a brioche bun, with a couple of chilli’s and peppers sliced and thrown in. My step dad ordered the beef broth and the broth had no real flavour to it, tasting very watery without any of the spice of flavours you’d hope for. My sister ordered brisket broth and was unhappy that a lump of meat she pulled out wasn’t really brisket but just a fatty lump of beef that hadn’t been rendered. My brothers partner ordered a rice dish and again was unhappy as the rice tasted as if it had dried out after being sat under a heat lamp, so all in all not a great mix of for the food menu. The venue itself was beautiful and had a nice atmosphere until half way through the mains when the dj suddenly started thumping out throw back tunes. It’s something we probably should have expected with it being a bar/ restaurant on a Friday night but just added to the disappointment as we pretty much finished our meals in silence and got the bill as soon as possible due to being unable to have any real conversation. Some positive notes as mentioned was the atmosphere before hand felt great and the restaurant does look beautiful when your sat down looking around. There was a female front of house waiter who was running around and being very pleasant and apologetic trying to keep the evening going and she deserves some recognition as she appeared to be doing 3 people’s jobs whilst others merely strolled around or hung about near the bar with their backs to the dining room. Also the manager came over at the end and addressed issues, apologising multiple times and offering some discount. We all agreed that it may be ‘teething’ issues for a newer restaurant but we all felt very underwhelmed leaving after being so excited to try. Hopefully after the kinks are ironed out, this place could be something special, but feels a long way off...
Read moreThe only Vietnamese thing about this place is the name. We booked to celebrate our 30 year wedding anniversary. I should have known it wasn't going to be good because there wee only 3 tables occupied. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. However, the menu and prices do not reflect what comes out of the kitchen. I had the bone marrow starter. The best thing on that plate were the 2 fried prawns. The Caviar was there but I couldn't find the taste. The marrow needed seasoning. Prawn crackers might seem like a good idea to bring in some "pan-asian" flair but it doesn't really work. Fat on top of a deep fried cracker... I ordered the rice plate with garlic prawns that comes with pickles and nuoc cham. What arrived was a plate of fried rice and 7 uncleaned prawns for £19. I asked about the pickles and was told "we aren't doing that right now" so I figured the nuoc cham was not coming either. By the time the "senior" server came over my husband was half finished with his meal. She did ask if I wanted something else, but I didn't fancy eating while my husband watched because he would have finished his meal before mine would have arrived. This ruined the evening. I would not go back to that place. There was no manager to speak to. The waitress was lovely and apologised, however, I should have been informed that the dish was going to be replaced with fried rice. Had I know, I would have ordered something else. I see from these reviews, someone else noticed the dish was not as advertised so it wasn't just a one...
