From layby greasy spoons to a la carte restaurant I have never experienced such stressful chaos and rudeness. The owner was dismissive and curt on arrival. The middle aged server was stressed and short. She got orders to the wrong tables around us and when asked to rectify shortfalls she was sullen and stressed. We ordered quiche and sausage and mash from the specials board. When it finally arrived it was dumped on the table with no eye contact and a quick is this your order. I tried to make eye contact and said yes if it is a quiche but I was talking to her back as she walked away. Obviously condiments are either very expensive or stolen regularly as there was only salt available on the table and anything else had be requested if you get the servers attention ( I gave up trying). I had the first mouthful and was wondering why the quiche had no pastry case when the same surly waitress demanded that I hand it back because she had given me the omelette for another order. She strode off with said plate towards the kitchen and reappeared a few seconds later to give it to the right table. Our order was eventually dumped on the table and the quiche was rather bland but my interest was piqued on the second mouthful by the stand of human hair that hung from my mouth and disappeared into the middle of the quiche on my plate. On the third time of calling to the waitress she took the hair from me and said she would tell the kitchen and that was it. No sorry or offer to change the meal. After 10 mins a man who claimed to be the owner stood confrontationally at the table and said that there had be no hair in the quiche. My husband said there was because he saw me pull it from within the food. He became very abrupt and rude and said it was my hair despite my hair being of different colour / length and firmly secured in a ponytail. He was so rude and I advised him that I had a problem with his attitude as it was brash and just not normal and that I would not be eating there again. He then looked me up and down and said sardonically well you have obviously not has a problem eating the rest of the food on your plate and strode off. We asked for the bill and were informed as though we had been granted a miracle that the quiche had not been charged for. Too little too late. Get some young cheerful staff. your food is neither here nor there and your customer service is worse than your hairy quiche. I would recommend this place only if you are bored and want stress on a plate from start to finish. Finally please wipe your tables down between customers we are in the middle of covid! I saw 3 tables leave and none were wiped before more customers sitting...
Read moreI was in Newark with my friend who's visiting from Sri Lanka. He's been wanting to try a proper English breakfast for ages, so we decided to check out Feeling Peckish. Honestly, it turned out to be a great choice.
As soon as we walked in, the guy behind the counter greeted us with a big smile. Proper warm and friendly vibes straight away. You can tell he really cares about the place and the people coming in.
The cafe itself was really nice. Clean, cosy and had a chilled, relaxed feel. Loads of options on the menu too, which was great. We both went for a hot chocolate. I got the vegetarian breakfast and my friend went for the mega breakfast.
The food came out quickly and looked amazing. My veggie breakfast was proper tasty. The veggie sausages were cooked well and full of flavour. The hash browns were my favourite though, perfectly crispy outside and soft inside. The fried eggs were spot on too, yolk cooked just right, not runny but not overcooked.
My friend loved his mega breakfast as well. It was his first time trying hash browns and he was a big fan. He couldn't stop talking about how good they were and how much he enjoyed the whole thing.
Now the hot chocolate. Honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m from Bristol and nothing I’ve had there comes close to the one we had here. It was rich, smooth and clearly made with care. You could tell it wasn’t just something out of a machine.
I wish I got the name of the guy who served us. He was bald and said he’d been working there for 28 years. Not sure if he’s the owner or not but either way he’s a legend. Super friendly, made us feel welcome, and clearly knows how to make a banging hot chocolate. He’s a real credit to the place.
All round great experience. Great food, great drinks and great service. Would definitely come back next time I’m in Newark and would recommend it to anyone looking for a proper...
Read moreNormally my first spot when I’m for breakfast in Newark not tried any others until now. So I went it for my latest visit to a different staff members than usual, the new treat me appalling the only thing I can put it down to was how I was dressed as I am normally dressed smart I was going to the gym this time so I looked less elegant and more sorry this time. When ordering the same breakfast I order every time I come in for some reason this time I can’t swap the items I like,so the breakfast I normally have, I couldn’t have! So the items I don’t like I would either have to loose or just not have he would not let me swap none of the items but yet exspected me to pay the same price. As his exscuse was certain items cost more.... but then when you check the extra items on the menu they was all priced the same. Then the staff member began to argue with me about the price of his food. What I thought was unbelievably unprofessional just goes to show what little customer service and people skills this man had who was running the cafe safe to Say me and or my friends won’t be eating here anymore with staff and manors like that I’ve never been so offended with how I was spoke too this is some one who clearly is unhappy in life and his career and does not take the shop and there customers seriously. He was proud of his poor customer service there’s is plenty more cheeper, friendly better quality cafes round here with a lot better...
