Papa Johns Pizza — Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Love papa johns but had enough of the inability to get a simple job right, just to be clear the walk in service I have received has always been good, friendly staff and fairly good turn around, the online ordering and delivery side of things is appauling!!

We live less than a mile from the store but sometimes have no option but to use the delivery side, I'd say it's about 50/50 with the food being good and the food being either overcooked or Luke warm, no real consistency.

The ordering system is long winded and promises a loyalty scheme that is neigh on impossible to actually implement!

Last time of ordering before tonight we had selected the stuffed crust to go on the pizza, it turned out they had run out of cheese for this and the manager had rung to say about this issue and he had been calling customers all night, by the time I'd seen the missed call the pizza had already left the shop and arrived a while later over cooked and tepid.... Prior to its delivery the manager had apologised about the lack of stuffed crust and said no refund could be issued but next time we order he would sort us a free pizza or similar to make up for the issue.... No problem.

1st time I called and tried to redeem this offer the staff had no clue what I was talking about and couldn't do this without authorisation and there was no-one in shift that could help but the manager would call me the day after to sort it out.... That call never came!

Fast forward to tonight, after speaking to the fella on the phone he said he was aware of what went on but couldn't just dish out a freebie, he would however give me a good discount and free delivery for tonight.... Fair enough, I'll give it another shot and placed the order having been told it would be with me in 40-45 minutes.... An hour later (still no pizza) I call the store to be told that they can see all of this on the system but the order was never actually submitted.... They can do it now and it'll be with me in about 45 minutes......and there goes my business to Papa Johns Newcastle...

Very bad. Never tried before, always a Domino's customer but thought we'd give Papa John's Newcastle under Lyme a try. This restaurant is situated close to my house, approximately 5 minutes drive.

First ever time ordering: Delivery took 1 hour 40 minutes with no apology from the driver. The pizza was bland, burnt black, tough, hard, chewy and utterly disgusting. x1 medium length pale hair found embedded into the cheese, it was hanging off as I bit into a chunk. There was barely any sauce or pulled pork scattered over the dark brown base. Majority was binned. It looked reheated.

Second time ever ordering: Thought we'd give them another go. Waited 1 hour 20 minutes with no delivery. Rang to enquire and was told about a shortage of staff and that the driver had left 30 minutes ago. The phrase used was "There's only so much we can do". Whereas I sympathise with a situation like this, it is in no fault of the paying customer and a reputable popular pizza company with a tagline of 'Better ingredients. Better pizza" should provide an acceptable service to the customer. The pizza was admittedly better than the previous, though still incredibly average tasting compared to even a frozen supermarket pizza. Pizza arrived stone cold and had to be put in the oven for 15 minutes. Overall, we only ended up eating the pizza 1 hour 40 minutes from ordering.

Both receipts stated an expected delivery time 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier to when we received delivery.

We will never be ordering again from this place and would suggest a hygiene and service shake-up to ensure this business retains...

I ordered from just eat. A small pepperoni pizza, which was enjoyed by my daughter and a vegan works for myself, which wasn't as enjoyable as my daughter's. I had to pick off onions and olives, that were not ordered as extras and were not included on the pizzas original ingredients, when I was ordering. It's a possible mix up. But I have an intolerance to onions and don't like olives, so spent around 2mins picking them off, by the time I'd finished the pizza was almost cold. So I had to reheat it in the microwave. First time ordering from here, not sure if I will again. I do have to point out the delivery service was great, on time and the delivery man was polite and professional. Just a shame the order was half wrong. The pizza did taste good once heated up and to my required taste.

Update: ordered from here on valentines day with my partner, it took a lot of convincing since the last time I ordered from here. The food was cold when it arrived, it had to be reheated in the microwave. Yeh honestly won't be ordering from here again. The driver was polite and friendly, just a shame the food was cold.
