PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO YATES - would put 0 stars if google let you

Had a disgusting experience at Yates on Saturday night for my best friend’s birthday.

After queuing up for 40 minutes with no issue, after being let in and waiting for ID to be checked, I was told by security and the manager that I was being refused entry due to the material of my trousers.

They said that these were “trackie bottoms”, which they aren’t and there was no empathy shown by the manager, who was rude and disrespectful. We explained in a nice manner that the reason I was wearing these trouser that were more stretchy than jeans (see picture below) was because I had been injured, breaking my arm and kneecap a week ago and awaiting surgery, so my leg was too swollen to put into jeans.

I understand if someone was in spots material outfit to be refused entry to uphold the standards the management want but as you can see from the picture below I was in a smarter outfit than the majority in the queue as I was wearing a Hugo boss polo, M&S trousers and Ted baker shoes. However, others who were wearing ripped cargos were able to be let in as apparently that still upholds the standards.

It’s a real shame there was no cooperation due to the circumstances of my injury excluding me. The manager said that if I had a “broken leg” it would be different, so why is a broken kneecap any different to that?

This has left a sour taste in my mouth and has actually made me feel quite discriminated against. The manager in particular was horrible towards my girlfriend, who was trying to explain the situation and understand why he wasn’t letting us in, but he would just dismiss and talk down to her, utterly disrespectful and people like that shouldn’t be working in hospitality. It wasn’t even that we were drunk as neither of us drink for religious reasons.

I hope we receive some clarity over why this situation...

A long wait to order, and preference seemed to be given to the middle aged 'hardened looking drinkers' coming up to the bar, rather than those already waiting patiently with menus in their hands - perhaps they were worried that the 'drinkers' would kick off if they were kept waiting? Anyway, when my order was finally taken the guy - I got the impression he was perhaps the manager - was very friendly. He took my order and my cappucino arrived 5 minutes later. It was excellent. Five minutes more and my Philly steak ciabatta and chips arrived, with a huge mixed chopped salad on the side, which I had not expected. The food looked delicious, but in fact it was pretty awful. The ciabatta was quite Burton on top, the steak strips were rubbery and definitely 'well cooked' (and then some...) despite me ordering medium rare, and the chips were cold. The salad WAS delicious, but everything else was very poor. The waitress was lovely and helped me pick up the contents of my bag when I dropped it, without a moment'so hesitation. Would I come here again? Probably not, which is a pity, because the prices are good, the staff are excellent, and the decor...

Been here before and not had a issue. But today was appalling. We ordered food, explained to us it will be a 40 minute wait the pub did not even seem that busy with food orders. Then orders seemed to be coming out all over the place a table a table that arrived after us got there food first. When the food arrived there were items missing. We explained this to the supervisor that explained due to the wait the food we were expecting would come later meaning our food would have gone cold so he offered us a pair of free drinks or a free pudding instead. After speaking to him later about how long a pudding would be he explained it would have been a two hour wait. To be honest the pudding came out quicker than this.

It just seemed really disorganised and the supervisor was rushing about dealing with complaints all over the place. There was even a table that left and requested a full refund due to how manic it was and it went completely wrong for them.

Regarding the quality of the food, it did not seem to be as good as it has been when I have previous been. It was just about warm.

Just think service could have...

Sticky floor, dirty toilets. The staff is so poor in service, the food had to wait a very, very long time. Then the staff said they only had one cook. Friday night, one chef. Is that normal? One barman, and such queues, you had to wait two hours for your food and no one warned you about it. And the food was so bad

Loved every minute of me being there, great looking place, lovely and very reasonably priced food, brilliant atmosphere and staff members who were just the most helpful ones I've seen in a long time, will definitely go back there again very soon with my friends for a nice catch up meal 😀😀😀😀😀
