This is a very old traditional pub. It's pretty cramped on a weekend evening but it has a lot of charm and olde worlde ambiance with ancient wood beams, an open fire and nice little nooks to sit in. Really excellent bar snacks which include delicious pork pies and a pick 'n' mix cheese board! So what's not to like? Stunning old pub in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

It had a decent atmosphere, even at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon, with friendly staff and a coal and wood fire at opposite ends in huge, traditional fireplaces.

It's a Joules brewery pub, with Pale, Blonde, Slumbering Monk, and their lager - all of which are well priced and pleasant.
