Came here to have a nice brunch meal with a friend after being recommended it previously. I ordered a simple pancakes and eggs but requested the eggs be scrambled instead of fried. I also ordered an iced caramel latte (the only think worth paying for in this entire order).
What I received was disappointing. I was shocked to be presented with 4 tiny, thin ‘american style pancakes’, which were nothing of the sort and I’d requested Nutella as my sauce which came in a little pot in the middle. My issue was not how the pancakes tasted, which was fine, it was the miniscule portion sizes in contrast to how much they charge for this. The eggs took the biscuit however. These had to have been the worst eggs I’ve ever been given. They were so rubbery and flavourless. The texture was so abysmal I wondered if the chef knew how to make a scrambled egg. It was almost as if it was steamed or microwaved and then scrambled after. Or not freshly made that day. Either way they were inedible I didn’t finish it. The entire order amounted to over £13 which I think is quite literally daylight robbery. I would not recommend Blakes if you’re looking for good value for money or to request any variation of what they have on the menu. Because clearly, they’re going to struggle greatly with accommodating and you will be disappointed. I don’t think I requested anything too much apart from a scrambled instead of fried egg. I will not be going back as I know for £13, I can get my money’s...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Blake's restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with my breakfast experience. I started off with a piping hot cup of coffee that was expertly brewed and had just the right amount of strength to wake me up. I opted for the full Monty breakfast. The dish consisted of two perfectly cooked eggs, juicy sausages, crispy bacon, black pudding, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, and a slice of toast. Everything was cooked to perfection.
But the true standout of the meal was the eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were cooked to absolute perfection, with the yolks oozing out and mixing perfectly with the hollandaise sauce. The English muffin was toasted to perfection, and the gammon tasted great. Overall, it was one of the best eggs Benedict dishes the missus has had in a while.
The service at Blake's was also top-notch, with the staff being friendly and attentive to our needs throughout the meal.
Overall, I highly recommend Blake's for anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying breakfast experience. Their full English breakfast and eggs Benedict are simply amazing, and their coffee is the perfect way to start your day. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and give them a try. You won't be...
Read moreFollowing a friend's recommendation and the positive reviews on here I visited Blake's for a mid-week lunch. As someone who suffers from coeliac disease, I asked what gluten-free options were available. Following a discussion between the counter and kitchen staff, suggestions were made and the food was ordered.
While I enjoyed the food at the time, a few hours later I started experiencing symptoms of being glutened; this would happen due to cross-contamination (shared appliances or utensils, hands not being washed) or a misreading of ingredients during the food prep. I was extremely ill, which led to plans being cancelled due to needing time to recover.
I contacted Blake's the next day regarding this experience and received a response stating they would reply as soon as possible. A week has since passed with no further update. Due to this experience, I cannot recommend Blake's to anyone with coeliac disease or on a gluten-free diet, nor will I be returning...
