If you’re in the mood for disappointment, frustration, and a severe case of buyer’s remorse, look no further than this so-called “curry house.” I honestly can’t believe a place like this still exists, and if you’re even remotely considering dining here, I urge you to keep walking. Or better yet, run.
First, let’s talk about the payment system, or should I say, lack thereof. This place operates on a cash-only policy, which should have been my first red flag. In 2025, why are we still dealing with cash-only establishments? It feels less like a quirky throwback and more like a desperate attempt to avoid the IRS. Sure, it might be charming in some retro, nostalgic way… if you're a tax evader.
Now, onto the food – or should I say, the nonexistent food, because the “service” here is a joke. My reservation was for 7 p.m., and yet when I arrived, they had apparently “overbooked” and couldn’t accommodate me for another 40 minutes. How does a professional business, in the restaurant industry, double-book not just once, but multiple tables in a single evening? It's beyond incompetent, and honestly, bordering on criminal. I waited like an idiot for my table, while watching others with reservations get shoved around like cattle.
And when I finally sat down, after what felt like a lifetime, the curry I was served could only be described as “sad.” The meat was rubbery, the sauce bland, and the rice was as if it had been microwaved from the previous day. There was no trace of the bold, fragrant flavors I expect from a good curry house. Just a sad excuse for a meal that wasn’t worth the cash-only hassle.
To add insult to injury, I couldn’t even take out my frustration with a quick swipe of a card. I had to scrape together exact change from my wallet like it was 1999.
In conclusion: This place is a disgrace. The food is subpar, the service non-existent, and the whole operation screams “under the table” in a way that feels more like a scam than a legitimate business. There are so many other curry houses out there that won’t treat you like an inconvenience, so save yourself the headache and avoid this one...
Read moreThe £25 deal is a ripoff.
Visited Khans a few weeks ago as a group and were offered the "deal": £25 for popadoms, a main and a selections of rice and naan for the table (which would be refilled). Having not seen the menu we agreed, however when we arrived and saw the menu this option was considerably more expensive than if we ordered the items as normal. Roughly £1 for poppadoms, £5 for a starter, £10 for a main, £5 for rice and naan. We pointed out how this wasn't a good deal for us and that we did not want the deal but were told this was not possible and that we had to take the deal as this was easier for them (presumably because it makes them an additional £10/person). After others on another table also spotted that they were also being swindled they refused and eventually some of us persuaded the server to let us order normally. We paid approximately £15 for a very nice, well portioned meal.
I have visited Khans many times as the food is very good but the attempt to trick us into paying over 50% extra has put me off. Had the deal been £20 including a starter, but perhaps with a reduced menu to simplify the orders then I would have been very happy to have taken the deal.
We were also made to pay in cash despite other tables paying by card. This is also inconvenience, but presumably also simplifies this for them tax wise.
The food also took 2hrs to arrive, however we understood this was due to chiefs being off and so was understandable (however it would have been good to have been told this when we arrived or after the first hour waiting to be served). We were given/argued for a discount for this, which was...
Read moreCame here on Wednesday for my 22nd with 16 of us and honestly it was mint from start to finish. The front of house lad was running the whole place on his own and still went above and beyond, nothing was too much hassle. He made sure we were all looked after and the service was spot on. All the food came out at the same time with no mix ups which is unreal when you’ve got a big group like ours.
The food itself was class, proper full of flavour, and everyone at the table was buzzing with what they got. Full credit to the kitchen because they absolutely smashed it. We also brought our own drinks and the way they handled that was sound as if we’d paid for them there, never once felt like an issue.
Can’t fault a single thing about the night. They made it dead easy for us and made my birthday feel special. Big shout to the lad front of house and massive thanks to the kitchen crew too. Would 100% recommend and will...
