One of my favourite breakfast spots in Newcastle has to be Little Aidan’s, small yet perfectly formed, they serve up one of the best brunch menus in the city. If you know @Aidan’s Kitchen well you know that they are THE place to go for pancakes so Simon ordered a half stack of Blueberry with maple butter but I decided to order something different for a change and opted for Chorizo Baked Eggs Chorizo and Tomato Ragu, Two baked eggs, crispy kale, parmesan and Northern Rye Toasted Sourdough - this breakfast dish is the ULTIMATE Winter Warmer, it was so delicious and very satisfying - perfect for a cold January morning  If cosy vibes, lovely people and delicious food are your thing then add Little Aidan’s to your list! #littleaidans #jesmond #toontok #newcastlebrunch #newcastle #breakfastnewcastle

We (two friends) decided to try out this new addition to the Jesmond Coffee scene. Aidan's Kitchen in Sandyford has been up and running for a while and has a good reputation so that seemed to bode well. Unfortunately, a couple of things weren't right and that did spoil the overall experience. We hadn't pre-booked which is an apparent pre-requisite. Feels a bit over the top for a café and having to wait outside until a table became free and staff were persuaded to let us have it, was a bit of a bore. The counter cakes looked appetising and we decided on the carrot cake with frosted icing. We ordered a decaf americano and a cappuccino. Service was fairly prompt and staff were friendly. There's a trend for no saucers at the moment and personally I think that's a mistake - nowhere to put your teaspoon and just feels like it's done to save on the washing up. There's a lot of clatter going on and several loud crashes from the kitchen area didn't help. Just a bit more calm would be good. The cake was OK but a bit dry. The americano was very bitter - a shame given they use a very decent bean I believe. The cappuccino was fine. Prices are a bit steep to begin with and with the add on of a surprise service charge, it made for a pricey coffee and piece of cake. Nice to have another local offering but probably not worth a repeat visit if you can't do it impromptu.

This is the second time I’ve been and while I love the food, please be careful if you’re pregnant and eating here! I’m currently 7 months pregnant and had specifically asked if the eggs were red lion stamped as it’s the only eggs I can eat runny safely due to being pregnant and I was told they were so ate 3 runny eggs, only to find when I went to the bathroom and saw the eggs outside of the kitchen that they were in fact not red lion stamped at all. I did ask a chef passing by if they were, he looked at them himself seen no stamp so proceeded to ask the head chef who said they were as they have to be now. But upon doing my own research it specifically states that any red lion egg will most definitely be stamped on the shell so they definitely were not and could potentially put my baby at risk. When you ask these questions you do it for a reason and you put trust in those answers but I honestly feel as though I’ve been lied to and quite frankly it’s kind of important to know these things when your vulnerable and potentially putting your unborn child at risk. Most likely will not be coming back here as I’ve lost all trust! Which is a shame because my friend and I really like the food.

This sister restaurant to Aidans at Sandyford, serves the same great food but in a more relaxed setting. Based in High West Jesmond it was easy to find and easier to get parked than its big brother restaurant.

When we arrived, we were given a complimentary bottle of water, which is always nice. We opted for the smashed avocado with poached eggs and the Mexicana, which is my favourite dish of poached eggs, on sourdough toast with spicy sausages and salsa like mix. The menu explains it far better than I am here. The presentation of the food is great and my wife and I really liked the vibe here; chilled music and friendly staff. The owner spent some time talking to us about this latest venture, and even thought it may not be as busy as Aidans (it's only been open for 4 months) you can tell it will be a success!

To conclude we loved the place! Perhaps a little pricey, but we will...
