Once considered the premier dessert destination in Newcastle, this spot has unfortunately experienced a steady and visible decline over the past few years. Regular visitors will have noticed the drop in quality, and sadly, it seems closure may be imminentâfor good reason.
The staff appear to prioritise online delivery orders over the experience of customers dining in. Tables are often left uncleaned for extended periods, service is inconsistent, and orders require frequent reminders. Thereâs a noticeable lack of attentiveness, which reflects a general sense of carelessness.
Itâs also evident that staffing levels have been reduced. Floor service is now often handled by kitchen staff, who double up to serve and clear tablesâsomething that would have been unheard of during the venueâs peak.
One can only hope the owners take heed before itâs too late. Thereâs still time, albeit limited, to restore some of what made this place special.
Sweet Dreams once stood proudly at the forefront of Newcastleâs dessert sceneâsurpassing even the biggest names. Now, it fades into a bittersweet memory, like the final notes of a once-favourite songâstill familiar, but no longer stirring the joy...

I recommend trying the cookie dough trays, theyâre warm and gooey, but still crunchy enough for people who prefer something a little less doughy: definitely my personal favourite item on the menu; good to let the ice cream soak in a bit to cool and shovel down when youâre feeling especially low and need a destructive pick-me-up
Fridges are packed with an ensemble of cold desserts; I have on good authority from my partner that the cheesecakes are good.. and some crazy hot chocolates with lots of cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles
The interior has undergone a refurbish since last going in: the update makes it feel very trendy and modern, with dark walls and neon lights - feels very reminiscent of Creams, and other dessert bars of the same nature, but with a more quiet, relaxed atmosphere, especially in the evenings.
Never gone wrong with sitting in, here, and canât recommend this place, enough - definitely worth a try...
Read moreI visited Sweet Dreams yesterday with my two children, including one with autism. The staff were absolutely wonderful and incredibly understanding. When I placed our order, I kindly asked if they could provide some unopened bananas because my son isn't very interested in sweets, but he loves his bananas. They were so accommodating and said of course. During our visit, my son went through the two bananas while my daughter and I enjoyed our dessert. At one point, he got up and walked over to the till. Since he's non-verbal, the gentleman at the back quickly brought out more bananas for him. I followed to pay, and I truly appreciated how welcoming and understanding the staff were.
It felt like a truly autism-friendly environment where I didn't feel panicked or uncomfortable when my son had a meltdown; everyone was kind and supportive, smiling throughout. When we left, my daughter told me sheâd love to come back, and sheâs rightâwe will definitely be returning. Thank you for making our...
