Dinner at The French Quarter in Newcastle. Gorgeous little restaurant and wine bar, perfect for date night. 🍷 . . . . . . . #datenight #foodvlog #foodugc #ugccreator #bestrestaurants #traveltiktok #traveleurope #thingstodoinnewcastle #winebar #fyp #cheeseboard

A really fantastic restaurant across food, service and atmosphere. The setting is really nice under the railway arch and feels very cosy with the lighting and wine bottles on display. I would 100% recommend going here. The serve was spot on, I didn't have a reservation but they found me a spot at the bar which was perfect. You can tell all the staff have a real desire for you to have a great experience, very friendly and happy to give recommendations. I had artichoke to start, which comes as a whole globe head with a lovely vinaigrette type dip. Then chicken casserole and potato dauphinoise for my main. The casserole had a 'home-cooked' look but a really great tomatoey taste with plenty of vegetables and perfectly cooked chicken thigh pieces. The star was the dauphinoise, one of the best I've ever had. It had nice crispy bits on the top and bottom and was quite garlicky (in a very good way)! But most importantly, it wasn't overly cheesy and drowning in sauce, you could still feel the (perfectly cooked) potatoes and it wasn't impossibly rich. Bill came to £30 (no drinks), including service charge.

Called off in here for dinner a few days before New Year’s Eve on a bustling Sunday evening. Had a bit of a wait before staff took our order, but I can cope with that as they were so busy. Drinks: Opted for the house wine, and wasn’t disappointed. Exceptionally good quality. Food: Loved the steak! Full of flavour. The dauphinoise potatoes didn’t disappoint. One minor criticism is that the frog legs seemed a little lacking something, with the parsley and garlic sauce a little too thin to cling or offer much flavour. Lived in France for a few years, so have had a fair few of them and think they should probably review that particular dish. The rest of the meal was absolutely lovely though, so wouldn’t let this put me off recommending the place. Finished off with a wonderful Café Gourmand with one of the best dessert wine pairing selections I’ve had in a long time. Loved the way they placed the tasting notes around the glasses. All-in-all: I’d definitely return and recommend.

Chose The French Quarter for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and an excellent choice it was! We have been before, but not for some years, and very glad we decided to go back. Everything about the place is really good - ambience, atmosphere, the staff, but especially the food. As it was a celebration we went a la carte, and did a mix-and-match - four small plates between us (starters, as we used to call them in our day), followed by a main course each, with shared potatoes and veg, and a dessert each. But there are a whole lot of variations possible - for anyone new, the staff will talk you through the menu, or just ask. Difficult to pick out favourites because it was all delicious, but the rillette de porc, the black olive tapenade, the endive & Roquefort salad, the lamp rump, the confit of duck were all standouts, and the chocolate mousse was as good as I've tasted. And given how busy it was, even on a Thursday lunchtime, the service was impeccable - we weren't rushed, and we weren't kept waiting too long, the drinks and food all arrived exactly when we hoped it would. Absolutely top class traditional French dishes done really well - what's not to like. Our last visit to another French restaurant in the region, which used to be excellent, was incredibly disappointing (mentioning no names...) so it's brilliant that The French Quarter is maintaining such a high standard. My wife had just returned from a week in France, and the food was much better than anything she had out there. We certainly won't be leaving it as long before we return, but maybe next time we'll not over-indulge ourselves quite so much and stick to the lunchtime...

I chose the French Quarter based on my previous enjoyable experience with a group of friends. On this occasion a friend and I were celebrating and we were looking forward to special food on a special occasion as the price dictates. However, I am sorry to say I was disappointed yesterday, Friday 12th October. We chose the fixed price lunch Menu which as an avid Francophile is often very good value in France and seemed to be the best value option. My starter had great flavour, prawns (x3) in a delicious sauce with nice tasting bread was enjoyable. The main course was presented as a salad with fondu style cheese, potatoes and ham. It was a rich dish, however, even taking this into consideration, it was a small portion with very little ham content and large off-putting lumps of potato, albeit with a tasty cheese sauce accompanied by a very averagely dressed green salad. It was the dessert which really fell flat in my opinion. Bearing in mind this course was priced at £10, yes, not 'a la Carte' but still pricey consisted of wafer thin shards of meringue, tasty strawberries topped with green foliage and minuscule dots of white chocolate which could barely be seen or tasted. This desert was dry and unappetising. The lovely glass of sparkling wine was good value as was the coffee. But, I'm sorry to say French Quarter, despite the warm, friendly welcoming staff, whoever oversees the food quality I have to say on this occasion it was poor value and lacked that certain 'je ne sais quoi'. I'm not usually the sort of person who...

Last night we went all francais. A lovely family run restaurant just a stones throw away from our hotel. Picked from the great reviews on TripAdvisor (as always) and we loved it too 🇫🇷 . They have taken the fuss out of French dining whilst keeping the tradition. Kind of a French tapas bar. And use independent local suppliers as well as suppliers in France.

Warm welcome. Nice little table for 2 was waiting for us. The waitress came over and kindly explained how the menu worked. She also explained how the flight of wine worked. Basically you choose red or white. You get to sample 3 different wines. 75ml each. Perfect to accompany our meal and went particularly well with the charcuterie sharing platter (basically meats. cheeses. pickles and walnuts). We loved the black olive taponade. It came with croutons which hubby had and they brought celery and carrots for me ( I requested). The main courses, which for me was medallions of pork in a peppercorn sauce and for hubby beef buorguignon, were literally melt in the mouth delicious. We ordered haricot vert (green beans) to accompany. Perfect.

It was exceptional value and we both loved every second there. In fact we are talking of going back to try their lunch...
