Me and my partner visited El Terero for the first time last night. We arrived at the restaurant at 5pm and were the only two in but the restaurant was pretty much full by the time we were leaving a couple of hours later.
The menu is vast and there’s plenty to satisfy all tastes. We wanted to try as much as possible, so we chose six tapas between us. We selected the tortilla, pork meatballs, ham & chicken croquettes, potatoes with chorizo and peppers, Seafood paella and the braised lamb.
The croquettes were crunchy and flavoursome on the outside with a lovely and soft texture on the inside. The tortilla was nice and thick with a very generous sized portion and the egg was not overpowering as it sometimes can be elsewhere.
The potatoes were cooked well and the chorizo seemed to be boiled as opposed to pan fried which is how I’d usually cook my chorizo but I may have to switch techniques because it was full of flavour and the peppers rounded things off nicely.
However, the stars of the show were definitely the two meaty dishes. The lamb chunks were extremely tender and must’ve been slowed cooked for a while to be that easy to eat and came with a sauce which was full of flavour from the tomatoes, white wine and paprika. My favourite dish was the pork meatballs, they crumbled nicely when cut and were extremely succulent to eat with a lovely and fresh tomato sauce which I ended up spooning onto the potatoes to make things even tastier.
We were able to finish all of the dishes but didn’t have too much room to spare, so three dishes per person would be ample for most. Although we did of course find room to share the Red Velvet Cheesecake. The layers of chocolate, cake, cheesecake and biscuit base intertwined extremely effectively and made for a fantastic end to our meal.
We were impressed with all the dishes and would highly recommend El Terero to anybody looking for a...
Read moreI’ve been coming here since I moved to Newcastle in 2008 - won’t be going back. I went in last Saturday after making a reservation on the Tuesday to be told by the shift manager that we were lying and did not have a reservation, she demanded to see our phone to show prove we had called (which we did) then had the audacity to lied to our face saying it was her we spoke to and that we had made the booking for another day… she just accused us of lying and not making a reservation and then insisted that she was the one who took our booking? Which one is it? After we set her straight about her attitude, she walked off without apologising and avoided our table for the rest of the night. Our server (a different lady) came over at the end of our meal and apologies informing us that she had in fact taken our booking and has accidentally put us down for the Friday instead of Saturday.
I’ll be calling the restaurant and leaving a complaint with the manager. I’ve never been so insulted in my life. Didn’t even...
