The Magpie — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

Tried food here. Table of four, one pizza, 3 meals from main menu. No chicken dishes available. Our order was sausage and mash, jacket potato with tuna and cheese, and chicken pie and chips with gravy. When ordering I asked 3 times if the pie came with gravy, she went to the kitchen twice to check and then said she would type it on the order. Pizza came within 5 mins. Our very slow eating nine year old finished this. About 45 mins into his meal I went to the bar and asked where the rest of the food was. The bar girl said I’ll check, rude man who I assume was supervisor, told me, well pizzas only take five minutes that’s why that came early, i’m sure the rest wont be long. After an hours wait, the food arrived. The server had beautiful hair that was dangling down allover our food, nice. I was served a freezing cold rock hard jacket potato, with lettuce. The fillings were hot though which was weird as the potato was not. My husbands pie came with mash and no gravy, when he ordered chips. We told the waitress who said she would go get the chips and gravy. The mash on his plate was a big stale lump with a crust round it, had obviously stood for ages. We popped in here to have a bite to eat. For a Saturday afternoon it was quiet, and got a table no problem. I went to order their food deal, pizza and a pint for £10 for us each, to be told they had NO pizzas! Back to the menu and ordered two burgers and two Guiness 0.0 (zero alcohol for us driving).... guess what? No Guiness zero, and no other zero alcohol drinks apart from J20. So settled for 1 of those and a half of IPA... £32. When the meal eventually arrived, there was no 'slaw' on my husband's meal, a burger so small, he found it hidden below the lettuce. His plate had a huge chip out of it, which showed because it was a black plate. My chicken Shearer Scorcher was lacking the crispy bacon but did have 'slaw, which was nothing but red cabbage and mayonnaise. And with no salt, pepper or other condiments on the table, I had to go and get them myself. We complained to the waitress about the food, who was apologetic and said the manager would give us a free drink or come and have a word with us...... 10 minutes later, with the manager showing zero signs of appearing, we left. We have both said we would NEVER go back there. Totally disgusting response from the management, who took our money in return for rubbish. Totally...

I ordered 2 meals. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese, as I thought you can’t go wrong with a jacket potato!How wrong I was! It came out and the bowl was warm but the potato was stone cold. (It was a jacket potato out of a microwave, skin stuck to the potato). I went to the bar to complain and had to wait a long time for a member of staff to speak to me. She said I could have a refund or another potato. I went for another potato. The same potato returned quite quickly and was slightly warmer, it tasted horrible! The potato was hard. It tasted like a frozen potato. I returned to the bar and a very polite glass collector said she would get someone from the kitchen. A different person came out, she was very unfriendly, and said that I could have a refund. No apology! This has meant I have gone to an event without any food in me. My daughter said her food was good. Most of the bar staff were good, but some are very slow at serving and don’t check who is next to be served.
