Well, what a morning we've had. Firstly absolutely no service at the Olive and Bean and even worse service at the Tyneside Bar Cafe. We had tickets booked for the Tyneside Cinema for a 12.05 movie screening. . So after the Olive and Bean disappointment, we thought a coffee and something light would be no problem as we were already on the cinema premises. We arrived at the Tyneside Bar Cafe at 11.15. Firstly we were asked if we had booked a table. The answer was obviously no as we would be watching the movie at 12.05. I explained this to the blonde woman who greeted us and that we just wanted to grab a coffee and snack. We were told to sit at a table which was reserved for use from 13.30. Only table service was available.. so we sat and waited for some service. Only a drinks menu was on the table, but no food menu's . So we sat a bit longer, whilst people came and went. Tables around us were cleared and wiped , but still no member of staff came with a menu or offered any service at all. Time was moving on and we were feeling totally ignored. Eventually we decided that we had waited long enough and it was time to leave and would rather walk in the pouring rain to Greggs for a coffee and cheese pasty . Only when we stood up at the table and put on our coats did a member of staff approach us and ask if everything was alright. We told her that the service was terrible and we wouldn't wait any longer. ( We were served immediately and sat at a table in Greggs in Eldon Square and made it back to the Tyneside cinema for the...
Read moreWent in about 8pm on a Saturday night, the menus were still on the tables. We waited to be seated and asked if they were still serving food. There were plenty of tables to choose from so a took a nice seat by the window. We were left with the menus, there are enough items on it but I guess some things are a little bit dull. When we came to make our order we were informed there were no mushrooms to that meant the katsu curry was off. We said we would think again and when we came to make the order other items were also off the menu. There was not much choice so I went for the hot dog (one of the dull options). Although it was described as coming with fried onions. It was just a plain hot dog in a brioche bun with a mayo thinly lined over the top and a plate of thin cut chips. We were asked if we wanted sauce. It did seem like a way to liven it up a little. We were delivered a ramakin of packets of Heinz ketchup and mayo. Nothing was awful but it's really nothing better that if we went for fast food like a MacDonald's. It's a nice venue and the beer is good, if a bit expensive at £6 a pint for a session IPA. I don't want to do the place down but I'd just say it's better to close or at least tell customers that the menu is depleted before they sit down and...
Read moreNice little bar with decent location and good beers on offer. Went to sit down for a coffee, food and use the WiFi for a bit. Pigs head croquettes were well presented, although I’m not sure why there was a dry yolk crumbled over the plate; spoiled it a bit. Burger was pretty much exactly what you’d want, if a bit salty, good portion for what I paid.
Unfortunately I was left surrounded by dirty plates and zero customer service, not a single staff member tried to clear my table or give me service of any kind for at least 20 minutes after I’d finished my food. Not sure why they gave the impression they waited on tables as they brought me my food and coffee initially. Even if the rest of the menu is particularly good (doubt it, it is pretty standard and limited) there’s no point coming here unless you want a quick drink before/after the cinema as far as I can tell. Hipster atmosphere may appeal to some, but there are a superior variety of options in the immediate vicinity for...
