Come to Trillians a couple of times and rarely had a good experience... OK if it's a bit of a bigger band or something far heavier like death metal, anything lighter and it's swarmed by cliquey older folks, a lot of which are quite rude and inconsiderate of space. Trillians is at its best when it has a good mix of younger and older people - younger gets the venue going and the older people have an unrivalled energy. Always a delight to see older folks enjoying a mosh or slam lol
Carpet could do with replacing, stand still too long and you'll actually have to pull to get going... bit annoying at every free gig they seem to leave the tables out right in the middle of the floor so it's hard to move about and get any decent energy up, and whoever gets to the tables first gets the best view as no one wants to stand in front of them.
Staff are always nice and attentive, the bar is pretty large and sometimes minimally staffed so there can be a little wait but it's no real bother. Drinks are 'alright' priced not too expensive... bout £4.40 for a pint is better than most venues about Newcastle.
Well worth checking out for a pint at the end of a day but not very good for staying. Get yourself along...
Read moreIf you’re a metal head, alternative person, rocker or whatever, this is the place to go if you’re in Newcastle! I’ve played here, I’ve drank here, it’s always class! The staff are lovely to talk to when the bar is quiet, so if you’re in for a drink during the day then have a natter with them. The drinks are very reasonably priced. Inside the place has history, murals to Lemmy of Motörhead, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Chester from Linkin Park. The tables have been there for 40 years, they’re like a solid oak on a cast iron frame with band memorabilia set in to the table top in resin. If I could have one of those tables I would! The artwork on the walls, the wooden beams in the ceiling, the place is perfect for someone who is alternative and they have bands on regularly! In my whole life I’ve never had any bother or trouble from any one in here and may it stay that way till my dying days...
Read moreTrillians is a time capsule. Here is a place stuck in the past and for ALL the right reasons, and you should visit for a cold beer anytime you're in town. This is a rare place where the essence and joy of the 'rock pub' is sustained, nutured and in very capable hands. Live music? Of course; a Duke-box crammed with decades of music to suit all your rock and metal tastes? Check! Friendly punters and good staff? Absolutely! A dark and sweaty retreat where we can hide from grim normality? You bet ya! Trillians is an absolute delight and it stands out as we become a nation where there are so few bastions of rock and metal left. Bars like Trillians continue to serve old and new generations of alternative music fans and provide us with a refuge where we can find a fun and boozy night! Here I feel at home. Can't wait for...
