I went out with my friends to this restaurant because of their recommendation from their past experience.
The food was designed to be for a desert lover.
As even the Lamb Village Curry is sweet (On the menu it's imprinted as spicy).
Chicken Jagajilly (Supposed to be Spicy, Turned out to be a Korean Sweet Chicken) The Jagajilly word means Spicy.
The Seafood Karmuru turns out to be sweet because they added sugar to saute the onions faster.
I can't even talk any good about Chicken Biriyani as they enlisted on the Menu to be of Malabari, however it has no meaning to the dish they prepared for us.
Chicken JilJil Mandi the first time when the restaurant opened it was Spice Dominant with a slight sweet and tangy. However this time The Mandi Rice has no flavour and the sauce for the Chicken was Sweetest and couldn't even eat the dish.
Because of the over sweetness, we asked to change the dish to Lamb Biriyani, which was an OK with tender pieces of lamb but quite watery compared to other locations in NewCastle upon Tyne.
Palkappa and Beef Curry combination was one of the other dishes we have tried which is also quite OK, but not that great or good enough.
The Bread Appam (Hoppers) were not cooked properly as the batter was quite watery.
The service was quite Ok, but the staffs need to know what the dishes in the menu is supposed to taste, so that they can explain to the guests. But not mocking the guests.
As a hospitality industry employee, the behaviour towards guest is very poor, after paying the bill and requested to meet the chef to let him know regarding the food quality has been poorer comparing to the first time, the reply was astounding " People who can eat my food only needs to come here, I don't want everybody to come here and enjoy it. I can't change my recipe based on anybody's feedback". He himself also acknowledged the use of Sugar while sauteing the onions which in turn sweetens the savoury dish.
Thank you for letting us know, because we are not coming here again, as well as not recommending this restaurant to any of the people who wants good food.
People who wants sweety savoury dish could come here and barely finish the food. It's not about the money, it's about the quality...

If you’re craving the vibrant, spice-laden flavors of Kerala, Uruli Bell in Newcastle is a must-visit. This cozy spot delivers a warm welcome and an authentic taste of India’s southwestern coast — without the long-haul flight.
We kicked things off with the Prawn Dynamite, and honestly, it’s worth coming here just for this dish alone. Perfectly fried prawns tossed in a creamy, mildly spicy sauce — it’s the kind of appetizer that makes you wish you’d ordered two.
Next up was the Nadan Beef Fry, a Kerala classic done right: tender chunks of beef slow-cooked with aromatic spices, coconut slivers, and curry leaves, offering a deep, earthy heat that lingers in the best way.
For mains, we tried both Chicken Kizhi Parotta and Beef Kizhi Parotta — flaky parotta bread wrapped around spicy meat curry, steamed in banana leaves to lock in flavor. The presentation is a delight, and the taste even more so. The Meen Pollichathu — fish marinated with masala and steamed inside banana leaves — was equally impressive, offering a fragrant, tangy punch that’s unmistakably coastal Kerala
One note: Uruli Bell doesn’t have a bar, so you’ll need to stick to soft drinks or bring your own pairing ideas.
Verdict: With its stand-out Prawn Dynamite, richly spiced beef fry, and authentic banana leaf specialties, Uruli Bell delivers a true Kerala experience in the heart of Newcastle. Go hungry, and go...
Read moreI really didn't want to write this review as feel a bit sorry for the chefs as I don't think they have the right ingredients to work with. But this was up there with the worst Indian meal myself and my mate have ever had.
I ordered the chettinad which I've had in many other restaurants. Normally quite spicy and peppery and full of flavour. This was weirdly light beige coloured, sugary and excessively coconut laced. It had absolutely no other flavours to it. The bhuna was embarrassingly bad. Just completely bland and a weird light sweet sauce with no hint of spice or other flavour whatsoever. I'm simply not accepting that this is because the cuisine was "keralan". I've eaten in many keralan restaurants and this is not remotely like them. I accept we were asked if we wanted to change..... But we just wanted to finish and leave as soon as possible.
There was an issue with the drinks but they were correctly removed from the bill so I won't go into any more detail. To clarify as the other reviews are weirdly contradictory. They have no alcohol license but you can take your own.
I have to agree with some other reviewers. I'm not convinced at all that the 5 star are genuine.
I picked this place as used to live in Heaton and read the 4.6/5 overall reviews. I had to apologise...
