Quarters Cafe Bar — Restaurant in Newport

I visited on the Sunday 2nd March at approx 11.45 am after the Newport half marathon. I have always used Hortons and more recently LLL wellness but they were very busy so thought I’d give these guys a try. On this occasion I only wanted to purchase a can of craft beer to take home. As I entered there were a group of four being served, another group of two gents and then myself. Outside there were three tables of two to three people including their children. There was a lady and a guy with hair in a ponytail and a white/ grey beard with glasses. His attitude and demeanour were terrible and noticeable straight away. Regardless, I thought I’d give them a chance. Despite it not being busy I could see he was already flustered and angry when I came in. He knocked his own glasses of at one point as he was so visibly angry. At this point I’ve been in the queue for five or six minutes with the original group of four still being served. The two guys in front of me leave as they are clearly fed up of waiting. In the meantime my wife brings my young daughter in to use the bathroom (as we weren’t expecting to he waiting so long). It’s now finally my turn to be served - they could not sell me the can of beer as I wanted to take it away and their licensing wouldn’t allow this (I understand this - but frustrating given how long I’ve waited). I leave the can and wait outside at the bottom of the ramp as I am awaiting my wife and daughter to come out from the bathroom. He brings a drink outside and as he walks passed me he tuts at me. Not sure what I’ve done to deserve this. Whilst I am waiting the guy keeps looking at me with a nasty look as he’s making drinks. Not sure what I’ve done to deserve this. My wife and daughter the come out. The floor is tiled so my daughter wants to hop her way out. The guy then gives my wife and daughter the nasty look. Not sure what they’ve done to deserve this. What a disgusting person this man is. Clearly not fit to run a business or deal with people. He is clearly in the wrong job. Avoid this place at all costs. Try Hortons - great roast dinners. Or Rico and his team at LLL wellness who are...

The only reason I’d give Quarters Coffee a 5 star review is because the option of seven stars was not available. We hired the cafe/bar for my mother’s 60th and felt the atmosphere, variety of drinks and size of the venue was absolutely spot on. Whilst I do take much personal responsibility for the hangover I suffered the following day, I do place a portion of the blame at the feet of Quarters for providing such a delicious selection of bottled beer. The Crate pale ale was a particular favourite of mine and seemed to compliment the cheese boards scattered around the room, perfectly. I am however yet to conclude whether Pale Ale and Camembert is a genuine taste sensation or simply the confused diet of a drunk Welshman.

I fully intend to visit the cafe on many more occasions in the near future and will likely take up the unlimited coffee option with a slice of cake. The spot is ideal for students/freelancers and/or anyone looking to enjoy a good coffee in a great cafe.

A final mention to the wonderful staff of Quarters. The chaps were incredibly friendly and their passion for quality service was on display throughout the evening. Their desire to provide the best customer experience is evident in the wide range of coffee, beers and spirits - all of which have been researched and tested in advance.

This place has knocked it out of the park for breakfast for myself and partner. We didn't know this hidden gem existed untill today and boy are we glad we did come because the food is literally top tier ! We went for the ham and cheese croissant, a few pastries and some coffees iced and hot and they did not disappoint. The coffee was smooth and rich and actually tasted like genuine coffee and not some burnt crap you get at Costa or Starbucks. Also the food was so nice and well presented and so tasty it was really an incredibly experience overall . The staff are friendly and welcoming and accommodate and cater to every need . We will definitely be coming back for the lunch and evening times to test out some wine and beers I think. I'm already booking in my calendar when to come back next time , we literally won't be able to stop thinking about this place for weeks now . And 15 pound per person for a meal , a cake/pastrie and a drink you literally can't go wrong for good quality food .
