We popped in as we were passing by and the aroma of fresh food was magnetic. My partner has a visual disability and as we entered, the waitress brought us to a table on the same level as the front door. A little touch that not many people think of. She pointed out the specials, which were all just what we like to have and also appraised us of the regular menu. She was prompt and attentive in spite of the place being pretty busy. I had Cottage pie which was served with lots of mash and veg and a separate boat of gravy, and herself had braised steak, again with mash and veg, very generous helpings indeed. Both were delicious. It's rare that herself clears a plate but she did this one justice. She'd have eaten the pattern off it if she could. Desserts weren't really available except apple pie and cream but to be honest, we had no room for it anyway. All in all, the best home made food we've had in years, and that smiling and laughing waitress was a breath of fresh air. She would cheer you up as she went by, almost singing and calling everyone by name. The place stayed busy as we left, with people who were obviously regulars being greeted with a big Hello and 'The usual, Marie? Sit on down there and I'll bring out your tea first.' A delight to be there and will be back soon. Thanks for brightening an otherwise dour day. £17 plus a well deserved tip is money...
Read moreCalled to Courtney's for lunch with my mam and my god mother as it had been recommended to us .I am afraid I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone based on my experience yesterday I ordered a triple decker sandwich and chips .I found a hair on the first sandwich and was digusted pull it out and threw it on the floor as you do when I manage this to the waitress she asked to see the hair ,I did not eat anymore of the food but was asked to pay in full for it as she stated I should of kept the hair to show to the staff and she had to answer to her manager if she did not charge for the food I paid in full and regretted the least they could of done as a gesture of good will was to reduce the bill she did apologise but I left the place hungry and disgusted .my mother did tell the waitress she had witness me pulling the hair from the sandwich I would of love to have spoken to the manager as I also work...
Read moreVisiting Newry for the day, we had been heading towards loft27, having read good reviews on it. However, it was closed on arrival, despite online stating it was open. The next cafe we happened across was Courtney's, and we couldn't have been happier with this cafe. The menu choice was huge, prices were reasonable, and the welcome on entering was friendly and pleasant. We had homemade soup and sandwiches, and it was delicious. There was loads of choice for us (trying to eat healthy). I also loved how there were chocolate biscuits and bars, which I sometimes prefer with a coffee or tea instead of the usual heavy cakes on offer. Well, it's worth a visit whether you are looking for something light or a...
