After staying a night at this hotel with a bad experience and no management to speak to I skipped our second night here and sent an email to complain that went something like this.... We arrived at your hotel on 07/09/23 upon checking in we were asked if we would like breakfast for an extra £8.95 each. This was stated on the buy a gift website as been included for both mornings. After locating our room, we then walked into an overpowering smell of damp so wanted to open the window immediately. We pulled back the curtains to find a window so filthy you could barely see through it… maybe this was to stop the beer garden across the street from seeing directly into the room? Either way we had to have it open due to the smell. We then went into the bathroom to find mould growing on the back wall, not surprising since the extractor fan was about as useful as an inflatable dartboard. We then later noticed paint bubbling on the ceiling and water dripping down the bedroom wall. This is obviously a problem with the roof that needs to be resolved and not what anyone would expect when staying in a Hotel (this has been a problem for a while as their had been no heavy rain in the area for a while so should be no water). At this point we were getting tired as we had been travelling all day so decided to go out for something to eat before returning for a good night’s sleep. Leaving the room we were met by the smell of someone smoking in the rooms 2 doors down (I know it was this room as we saw them from looking out of our window). We thought we could try to speak to a member of management in the morning and see if there was some way we could resolve some of the issues we had with the room. Upon return we turned on the television to find no smart TV functions, this was stated in the welcome book and on the website, and only had signal to a very limited number of Freeview channels. The bed we stayed in was the most uncomfortable bed either of us have ever slept in and safe to say neither of us got hardly any rest. We woke in the morning both aching in our necks and backs and completely worn out from lack of sleep. I came down in the morning hoping to speak to someone who would hopefully deal with some of the complaints to be told no management would be in until mid-day and there was nothing anyone on shift could do! After the shocking night we had experienced we decided we did not want to wait around as we had a very long drive home and could not face staying in the room again.
I asked to be refunded for my stay as this was not what you would expect at all, and I did not want to pay £10 to have to park again waiting around for someone to be able to help. I have to say the reply is laughable...
We sorry for the negative experience you had at our hotel last week According to our CCTV footage You were given a booking document with the first line stating. PROBLEMS WITH THE ROOMS MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY Had you come straight back to the office instead of spending your time in taking pictures and not accepted the room we would have done our best to give you an upgraded room or a full refund. We are unable to give any refunds as the hotel rules were not followed and the room was not rejected immediately as stated in our checking in document.
I can understand not been able to give a refund but the fact that I have stated mould in the rooms and damp through the roof, and this has not even been acknowledged by management is disgusting! Even the member of staff on duty was embarrassed that the room was in that state and apologised that he couldn't help me further. As I was not happy with the response I have called the hotel today and been told that it is solely my fault for not reporting it immediately as the piece of paper they give me stated I had to do so. I explained that we had been travelling for over 7 hours and had been told the paper was the receipt for the extra £10 for a Friday night stay so did not read this immediately, maybe yes we should have, but that does not make a mouldy room my fault, or any of the...
Read moreThis hotel is called the Grand Harbour Hotel and is also in ownership with ||The Royal Britannia ||17 St James ||EX34 9BJ. ||Booked this absolute disgusting hotel friday 22nd day time to arrive saturday night as the photos shows the harbour but when we collected the one key card for room 306 where we had to carry our 1year old baby walking the streets to collect the card. We eventually walked in to the building and the passage was stinking and our bedroom was even worse. I took photos of the stains and pubic hairs and hair on the sheets and In the window frame there were dead flies in the run its the worse hotel weve stayed in. I sent photos to the reception on the night to say how stinking the room was and as soon as we walked into the room. We could smell damp went in the bathroom and the soap dispenser had been used a couple of days ago as the soap was on the bath and was discolouring and it had been there so long. The double bed sheets and quilt were stinking and a absolute disgrace wouldn't have given the room to a homeless person they were so dirty if we arrived earlier then 10pm we would have left and had our money back of 168.35p and gone to a better hotel. The housekeeper was a chopsey lady came knocking the door didnt leave us answer used her keycard to get into the room and started chopsing straight away when she said whats your problem with this room. I stated it was filthy full of stains coffee on the skirting board the walls were stinking full of black marks and the bedding was full of black pubes and hairs from the person before us although the choppsey housekeeper that came to the door looking like a pit bull and was red In the face told me the room was spotless I turned to her and said well you need glasses as your blind and if she was employed by me she would have been sacked as this room hadn't been cleaned as it was stinking. She stated the sheets had been changed 3 days previously by herself and stated the room had damp in there so why is the bed being made 3days before a paying customer turns up. You really need to look at what your cleaners do when there cleaning the rooms and hall and stairs down and think about using cloths and polish and bleach and antibac spray and tell your laundry supplier to use more pods in the machine when there washing the bedding as the bedding we had even smelt dirty and full of damp and the pitbull of a housekeeper wreckened her cleaning was fantastic. Well whoever the manager of the hotel is needs to check every room after this pitbull has been to clean them as I dont think its been done very good. Mybe put a white glove on and go round wiping the surfaces and tables and checking if they come off dirty or clean. I do not recommend this place to anyone it spoilt our trip. The manager of the sales department received my photos at 08.15am and didnt even bother phoning to see if everything was ok and after me giving my number on email. The place isnt clean and its managed by idots and people that think when the room is this dirty its clean need to go to see a optician. The birds poo had been there longer then one day as it was dry and the soap on the bath was dry and she kept saying it drops out of the dispenser which the dispenser would have had to be pushed in for the soap to come out this was just a excuse that a lazy cleaner would use as she didnt do the job properly. Here are the photos of the pubic hairs on the bed sheets and on the single bed that nobody used. Wouldn't recommend anyone stay here terrible hotel. We had no choice to stay as the reception closed at 10.30pm and there was nobody else there to see the mess of the room and oscar was asleep in his cot and didn't want to...
Read moreThis hotel is in a great location overlooking the harbour and close to everything. |We were bought a night away as a gift from a family member and our stay included a 2 course meal with wine, we upgraded from the Grand Harbour Hotel to this sister hotel at an extra price of £25 for the hotel change and £10 extra for the date as we wanted a Saturday which we did due to the better views of the harbour.||We found it strange that you need to check in through a door outside next to your hotel in a small office to recieve your keys but after a certain time you need to collect these from the bar when the office is closed.||This hotel is very dated, the floor boards are squeeky so much so that we couldn't get a lot of sleep as all we could hear was people walking around and doors banging until around 3.30am. The bar staff which seemed to be 1 or 2 at a time were running everything especially of an evening when it was 1 person doing everything. We weren't impressed by the 'restaurant area' as it was in darkness, no tables laid out as if it was somewhere to eat, we tried to ask the bar lady how we order our 2 course meal but she was either so busy that we couldnt get her attention or no where to be seen! |We looked around and looked in the kitchen and everything was turned off and there wasn't a chef in there, so after guessing that they either weren't serving food or it would be the busy bar lady cooking it, we decided to eat elsewhere. ||I have contacted Jordan the manager directly to be told it is an old building so it will be noisy, and that the bar lady was not too busy etc but dismissed the meal we missed out on, I have sent another email asking for a partial refund for this but this has been ignored, so not only are we unhappy with our stay and the service, we have also had to pay extra to eat elsewhere!||The toilets in the pub downstairs has exposed wires showing, they were filthy and again hugely dated, there are two bar areas one that clearly state no children under 12 and no dogs, but they had both dogs and young children were in there at the same time!||Very poor staff, service and in a state of disrepair so we will not be returning.|A tip for everyone is that this company owns the following hotels: The Grand Harbour Hotel, The Royal Britannia Hotel & Harbourlights so I'm guessing these will all have the same service...
