Absolutely disgraceful experience at Camellias Cottages — so bad that we left after barely three minutes. I walked in with my friendly golden retriever on a short lead, with my mum following behind. Out of nowhere, an aggressive, out of control golden apricot spaniel lunged at him, biting the side of his face. Naturally, I shot straight back out the door.
The dog’s owners were as rude and vile as their dog’s behaviour. Shockingly, the staff just stood there watching the whole thing unfold, offering no assistance or support whatsoever. I’m posting this publicly as all the staff did was watch — and, unfortunately, they seemed unable to verbally communicate at all. You would expect them to at least apologise on behalf of their guests, given that our dog was attacked and bitten simply for walking inside. Instead, the owners were openly offensive and acted as though nothing was wrong. They even admitted their spaniel had an aggression problem, saying: “We have him locked under the table so it’s now safe for you to come through the door.”
The only kindness came from other guests outside, who were sympathetic and concerned.
Overall, it’s such a shame our golden retriever was attacked while the staff stood by silently, offering no apology or support.
I would avoid this place...
Read moreVisited on a busy summer's Sunday in July. Plenty of seating options with areas at the front of Camellia Cottage, to the rear, and a small table area upstairs. The menu is mainly light bites, cakes, hot drinks and it's licensed too. Food is more interesting than the standard sandwiches normally on offer. We had the fish finger sriracha brioche and a New York deli style sandwich. Both were very tasty. Sadly, the rear garden needs sprucing up. Tables are permanently sticky with old paint, plastic broken and faded artifical plants adorn the area and fresh flowers in clean water on the tables wouldn't go a miss. Inside, the stairs are painted in a light colour and we're filthy on the day of our visit. All Camellia Cottage needs is a brief refurbishment, and all...
