Homebird Cafe — Restaurant in Northern Ireland

All good things must come to an end… Pre-Covid this was a stellar, fun, vibrant and brilliant cafe. To that end, I have previously given this a five star review a couple of years back.

We had been here in May and weren’t overly impressed, but decided to give it a another try as it has been one of our favourites.

My wife and I visited with the kids for breakfast on a Sunday morning recently and I’m not sure where to start…

I walked in and stood there next to the “please wait to be seated” sign for a few minutes whilst being ignored by the young lady behind the counter and the manager / server.

Once our food came it was inedible. The potato bread literally tasted on nothing, my eggs were so overdone as to be rubbery and the homemade beans were just gross and lukewarm.

My wife didn’t enjoy hers either and neither of us really touched our food.

Upon leaving my wife ordered a small pastry and asked for a bag. The girl behind the counter became visibly annoyed and rolled her eyes when told we didn’t want a box you could fit a dozen croissants in for one tiny pastry… The pastry was so bad the wife spat it out.

Upon paying the bill we were asked “how was everything” and when my wife replied “uhm, okay I guess” so as not to be rude, no further inquires we’re made.

This place is clearly under new management and they’ve killed the vibe, service and food quality. We adored coming here, but it’s just not the...

They don’t do takeaway well no matter what they say ; so don’t bother!

Called in today for two sausage rolls and two coffee to take away. Checked with the girl in the till first if they did take away and she said they did !

Twenty minutes later I left with the order. Very bad customer service . Coffees appeared promptly but sausage rolls took ages. I was told by ( the manager ?) that they had to go into the back kitchen for them and put them in the oven and that was the delay . Saw one of the three chefs , in the not busy kitchen , place them in the microwave !

Ordered ketchup and brown sauce to go with it order. That was a sight to behold! Couldn’t find the plastic containers to put them in, or the lids. All this with three free members of staff at the front looking ( or maybe not looking too hard!) incredible ! Just said in the end; give me the sauce without the lids!

No apology or any effort to acknowledge the slow and poor service !

The over was over £20. When I opened the bag I discovered they have t even put in any cutlery with which to eat the rolls and the bit of salad and coleslaw they had put in there ! Really poor show!

Won’t be back for...

Bad Service! I had a very unpleasant experience during my visit this morning which has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.

During my breakfast, I went to the toilet and left my backpack and food on the table. When I returned, I was shocked to find that my breakfast and coffee had been taken away. I immediately approached the staff to inquire about what had happened. The Manager explained that they needed to keep the table turnover high (i stayed less than 30 mins) and since they didn't see my backpack, they thought I had left.

I was extremely disappointed with the staff's actions, as it was unprofessional and disrespectful to remove my food and coffee without any notice or warning. Additionally, I was charged the full bill of GPB 13 (they didn’t even offer to waive the bill) despite not being able to finish my breakfast due to their mistake. The only thing they offered me was a coffee, which did not make up for the inconvenience caused.
