Vibrant flavoursome food by the sea. The Jamaica Inn is located a 10 minute walk along the coast from Bangor Marina and is close to Ballyholme beach. There is on street parking close to the restaurant. Tables can be reserved for inside dining but the 16 outdoor tables are available on a first come first served basis. The outside area is dog friendly. There are fantastic views from the seated area over Belfast Lough. When we arrived; although there were at least two tables available we were not greeted or seated for almost 10 minutes. We seen 5 different waiting staff before one came to speak with us. Once inside the service was efficient and friendly. There is a wide menu catering for all types of tastes although we had expected a few more Caribbean inspired dishes. The Jamaica Inn menu is available on their website. The food is top quality, the portions sufficient for even the very hungry diner and the prices very reasonable. This was our first visit and we will definitely return if we are staying in the area again.

We decided this year for Christmas 🎄 that we would try the Jamaica Inn for takeaway Christmas 🎄 dinner, and we weren't disappointed 😋 When I rang, they were doing 100, so we booked 4 and paid only £17.50 each. We arranged to pick them up Christmas Eve between 9-12, and the staff couldn't have been nicer 😉 We were amazed to see how they were prepared, so professional meat and ham and stuffing in separate dishes separate dishes for vegetables, roast potatoes 🥔 and pigs in blankets oh and don't forget the mash. We also got 4 separate cartons of gravy, which were totally gorgeous 😍 They had a leaflet enclosed with the instructions on temperature 🌡 and settings, so totally idiot free. I couldn't fault anything, but thank them so much for such a fantastic hassle free meal. I'm definitely going to do the same next year, God willing 🙏

Nice venue and was busy when we arrived. We did not have a reservation so we sat outside. The food here was very good. We had calamari which was really well cooked and delicious and the fish and chips (hake). Again beautifully cooked with a light batter, Mushy peas and tartrate sauce were also excellent. Generous portion sizes here as well. To top ot off the Guinness was also really good for a restaurant. The only issue we had was we had to wait 65 minutes for our main course. They seem to have lost/ forgotten our order. To be fair the manager offered us a round of drinks to compensate. Would have been 4 or even 5 stars if it had not been for this. Still I would visit again. Nice atmosphere outside in the sunshine and a great place for a few sun downers and food.

Definitely won’t be back I feel as though you get treated like a second class citizen here if you are under 40, and the food takes an hour. My partner decided us and couple friends would go out to dinner (25-32 year olds). We had booked a table. We were seated and then left for 35-40 mins before they would take our order. About 20 mins in they brought a couple to sit next to us and they took their order right away, whilst we were still waiting to order. We ordered and then waited an hour for our food to arrive. They profusely apologised to the couple next to us about the wait. They didn’t acknowledge the wait at all with us. The food was ok. The “famous chilli chicken” was actually undercooked chicken strips with a tiny little pot of chilli dipping sauce. The cauliflower fritters in masala sauce, was a small drizzle of sauce in the middle of the plate and therefore the battered cauliflower and rice was extremely dry. We ordered more drinks and they were poured and sat there until we were done our food and the ice had melted. When they finally brought them over, one was a Coke Zero. My friend said, “sorry I ordered a Diet Coke” and the waiter responded, “well like this is a zero so do you really NEED it to be a diet?”. She accepted the drink she hadn’t ordered because we didn’t want to argue with the waiter. We then asked for the bill, they brought us it and no card machine. We waited and waited and they didn’t bring it. The couple next to us asked for the bill and the host man came over with the bill and took their payment (similar like he did with their order), saw we were still waiting to pay, and walked back to the bar to chat and mess about with other staff. We ended up reluctantly going up to the bar to pay, were the girl waitress and host stood chatting in front of us about nonsense and refusing to acknowledge us. Once they finished their conversation the girl reluctantly took my payment. I have never had such bad service and overall experience in a restaurant in my life. The only thing I could put it down to was that we were the only young people in the place. Sadly, I’ve been twice and it was the same experience both times....

Went for a bit of dinner on Sunday 23rd June, as we do often enough as the food is excellent. On this occasion I found the food to be, well, not up to the usual Standard. If you have tried the chilli chicken goujons then you'll know they are normally something you could take a craving for - because they are delicious! I'm not sure what happened but they just weren't up to the normal levels of yumminess. I'm all for honesty, so when paying the bill, I was asked how everything was (a nice courtesy often left out in this day and age) I told the staff that I wasn't overly enamoured with the meal, and stressed that it wasn't a big deal and I'd certainly be back. They discounted my bill to make up for not being satisfied! I was a little embarrassed, but after thinking about it for a few days, I realised that's why we go there. I mean you need to be pretty confident in your ability to deliver a repeatable experience to take responsibility when it (rarely) goes wrong. I've been eating there for 30 years and I'm not about to stop. The staff are great, the food is excellent, the view is relaxing and the beers are cold. There literally is nothing not to like. The point of this review is not to run down the Jamaica Inn for an off day, but to congratulate them on how they handled it. 90% of establishments could take a leaf out of their book. Look forward to my next visit, those goujons...
