I was totally shocked when in the takeaway on Thursday night... I kept my mouth shut and paid my bill. I phoned for a collection as I normally do once a week when im Derry. I ordered nothing different than normal 2 starters and 4 of the 'nice price ' menu, And a kids chkball and chip My bill was £9 dearer than the week before. The nice price items went up near a £1 each .And the starters around the same.. I didn't want to complain to lady on counter. The next night I phoned and asked for the manager. The guy who answered phone dealt with my complaint. He explained that their prices had to go up due to the increased costs and the prices haven't been increased in two years and they are now on par with other takeaways in Derry. He said their containers are large ones aswell. I accepted his explanation, as portions are decent. But the more i talked about it after and over weekend. I just thought, I have been ripped off. Food was good but it's a takeaway not a fancy sit down meal. We normally do a staff party late January in the restaurant but if this is takeaway prices I dread to think how much the restaurant now costs . I think I will tell them I won't be going to mandarin again for staff party or any occasion for that matter. I've rated still a two but that's for food. Im still annoyed writing this and if I had more confidence I'd be on the radio making a complaint. I mean it was nearly a fiver for 2 chkballs and a scoop of chips and a juice. Rant over . Game over for me...
Read moreWe went for dinner on a Friday night around 8/9pm. Not too busy, ordered our food and drinks. We were told the angel hair starters would take 20 minutes and we said we'd wait for them, they came out within 10 mins. We wanted to ask for drinks and even with the almost 10 members of staff walking around, we struggled to get the attention of the staff. We finally ordered more drinks and we had to follow up with the staff as we never received them. We received the mains, sweet and sour chicken was a bit bland and we reckon the duck was reheated and it was really fatty. We stopped eating the duck and just ate the chicken, at least that was edible. Nobody came near us to check if the food was okay so we didn't complain until the chicken was finished(we shared). We complained to who we thought was the manager and he just said that we should have said it to him.. If we had staff come over and check about the meal we would have but unfortunately trying to get attention of staff that had no interest in working just wasn't worth it. And then when we went to pay, there was a group of male staff all hanging around the bar laughing loudly. We ended up handing in the bill and leaving. Not an enjoyable experience at all, and a bad start to our...
Read moreI visited the Mandarin Palace yesterday evening. To start positively the starter was very nice – vegetable spring rolls. For main I ordered spicy chicken- the sauce was more sweet than spicy. That would have been ok until I tackled the chicken- I couldn’t cut through most pieces never mind eat them. Tried one bite and I couldn’t eat any more. It felt like I was chewing through grizzle, nothing short of disgusting. Wrapped a few pieces and took them home to check what I had eaten, did little better with a sharper knife. No one came during the meal to ask how we were finding our meals. My two friends found their meals poor, not quite as bad as mine but not what they expected. When told how we found the mains, we were offered complementary coffee/tea which to be honest our hearts didn’t lie to, so we didn’t accept. When we were leaving the waitress asked if we were heading on somewhere for the night- I said no I am going to get something to eat. At no time did I hear an apology. There was no reduction offered on our bill. Maybe my meal was a one off and to be fair they did...
