We had a gorgeous Sunday roast trying the pork and chicken - excellent food, amazing service, very, very loud.
Food - The food was excellent, I've had a great many roasts in my time and this was one of the best, as you can see in the video the pork pulled apart with a fork and it was so juicy, the chicken came as a supreme and was very generous, the only thing worth mentioning as a negative is there was such a variety of veg that the portions of each felt mean (that's subjective and barely worth mentioning)
Service - Fantastic all the way, ordering is split between food and drinks, food is ordered at the table and drinks are ordered at the bar. The server took our order really quick and the food came out very fast. They were attentive but not intrusive, A+. Drink service was swift and professional, we had soft drinks and after I had ordered they were brought straight to the table, again, this was swift. A service charge is added to the bill.
Atmosphere - The bar itself is aesthetically pleasing with a reclaimed, hipsterish vibe. It's a massive open space with the bar in the centre and this is where the issues begin. It's loud, aggressively loud, I couldn't hear my partner or the staff at all and given the complete lack of soft furnishings every sound echoes around and around. As someone with sensory issues I struggled. The seating and tables are mismatched which is cute but I barely managed to get my legs under the table as the seats were too tall, the tables are also packed in close and I spent half my meal with my back touching the person behind me. There is a soft seating area at the back of the bar which I didn't see until I had already eaten, it's a much quieter and more comfortable area and I really wish I had seen it earlier. To be clear it's pretty and if you're into the whole community eating, cacophony thing, it's a good atmosphere.
Accessibility - Poor, it's very tight, you won't get a wheelchair through it, it's loud so bad for people with sensory issues, there's no parking lot so you take your chances on the very tight streets outside and you'll struggle to order drinks as there are tables...
Read moreJust had a Sunday roast here and sadly was some of the worst food I have had in a long time coupled with the worst service. We booked a fairly large group of kids and adults. The food took well over an hour to arrive after ordering and then were served a tiny portion of meat with 3 small overcooked roast potatoes. The accompanying veg then didn't arrive for another 10 mins or more. The cauliflower cheese had very little cheese and was very overcooked too. It was more like Cauliflower mush with mystery sauce. The only good bit was the gravy which was tasty but we all had to ask for more.
The service from the start was defensive. We have all worked in pubs and restaurants and nobody in our party was at any point rude or belligerent. There was zero apology for the wait or explaination. When we asked for more potatoes, we were told we would be charged extra. I said considering the delay some extra spuds would go a long way for making up for it. That was a no, so we then said we expected a reduction in the bill to compensate. Then commenced a very awkward negotiation to arrived at a final amount which the lady in charge huffing off mumbling something about a final amount. Still nothing in the way of an apology.
The absolute worst part was when most of the party had left, the manager stopped my wife and told her that we should find another place to eat Sunday lunch as they didn't have time for this kind of hassle. She obviously waited to isolate one member of our party for her pointless dig which was cowardly. Compared to the amazing food and outstanding service we had at the Black Horse there is no way will return to the Roseberry even without this...
Read moreWe often eat out for Sunday lunch and decided to try to Rosebery for a change this week. We booked ahead as we were a large group with kids. Decor and ambience generally good. Although three of our party were not on time, we knew what they wanted to eat, so when the waitress came over and suggested we order before the ‘two big tables come in’ we told her we were ready. She then disappeared. Eventually, we went to the bar and ordered with her. There were only two other tables eating so we were not expecting a long wait. SEVENTY minutes later our meat, Yorkshire’s and potatoes arrive. The veg were a further ten to fifteen minutes. At this point, three out of five of the children had finished their dinner! I mentioned (gently) to our waitress that this was quite poor and asked for some more potatoes and gravy for the kids. She was extremely angry with this. She kept disappearing to ‘discuss with the chef and owner’ (I’m really not sure these people were even in the building taking into account the wait for everything!) nothing materialised. No apology. Eventually the adults ate cold meat and spuds with warm (overcooked) veg. We didn’t dare order pudding! I asked for the bill (a further fifteen minute wait). I told our waitress that we were not prepared to pay for the children’s meals (again off she scoots for discussion with the big boys out back) and returns extremely angrily. We pay (a slightly reduced rate) and she decides to single out one of my friends to threaten her that she is not welcome again as the pub don’t ‘have time’ to deal with this!! General review- Food- OK/average. Staff- angry and rude. Rosebery Sunday roast- sadly...
