Booked the function room upstairs at the pub for a 5oth birthday party. All sorts of promises made by the manager re getting the room decorated as it was in shocking condition, stated he would provide a bar person and we could bring our own food as the kitchen upstairs wasnt fit to be used. After a visit 4 weeks before the event the manager said the pub group wouldnt give money to decorate the room but the other arrangements with bar person and catering would stand. On the afternoon of the function attended the pub to be met by the manager who said he had a few things to tell us : The place wasnt decorated ( which was obvious ) He wanted paying now or he would lock the doors and there would be no function There would be no barstaff at the function as there was a large event at the Arena and that the pub would be very busy and so he needed all his bar staff downstairs to maximise his profits, our guests would have to buy there drinks downstairs with the other customers then take them upstairs untill approx 9pm when he would decide if he could provide a bar person at the function. He then said "thats how its going to be take it or leave it " Also said " cant understand why you booked the room in first place , its just used by sweaty heavy metal bands/fans " Not what you want to hear at 1pm when the invites had been sent out and party supposed to start at 7.30pm We had to cancell causing alot of upset . Shocking attittude by the manager who was so arrogant and aggresive believing he had us over a barrell and could re arrange all the arrangements as at such short notice we would have no option but to go along with it. Never again will I eat or drink at this pub Well we went to the Canal House pub in Nottingham who had luckily for us got a function room due to a cancellation. They were fantastic and couldnt help enough and we had a...
Read moreRude staff! We were sat inside the bar on a December evening, the smoking area door was left open, despite a sign on it saying it's cold, please keep the door closed, so we closed the door. My husband was approached by a very arrogant man from the smoking area who was angry we'd shut the door. We explained we would open it when they wanted to come in and pointed out the sign. The girl he was with ripped the sign off the door, and when the man came in he approached us and aggressively said that he'd recommend not shutting the bar staff out of their own bar. He then went and sat at the end of the bar drinking, so obviously wasn't on shift at the time.
I don't expect to be spoken to in the manner this man spoke to me and my husband by anyone, much less by someone very keen to tell us he's a member of staff at the bar. It's a real shame because the lady who served us was lovely, but we won't be...
Read moreThe staff are there best asset and are a friendly and funny lot who still have that youthful lust for life that only 20 somethings bar staff retain. I attended an comedy show on the second floor at the weekend and I thought the places atmosphere was fantastic. Often its a place I'd pass by in favour of more centrally located pubs but after such a great evening spent there I'll endeavor to frequent it more often. For the beer lovers I must say the beers quality and selection are great (craft beer lovers heaven) and I don't think I've had a bad cask...
