What a shame ! Ten people spending £400 on food, plus a lot on drinks before hand were treated like dirt once we complained. Never were we asked during the meal (Sunday lunch ) how the food was and to be honest when your chatting and enjoying your day with friends you don’t really start putting it together until we’ll into the main. The starters were lovely and no complaints there but, over cooked under seasoned and poor were the general issues. I never re salt or season my meals but, yesterday I had to three times re salt, pepper and add horse radish, mint sauce AND! Mustard to get any flavour. Deep fried stuffing balls and roast Potatoes. Inedible butternut squash wellington and totally fatty and cheap cut of belly pork! Over cooked lamb and beef. Very grey and stiff. Burnt Yorkshire's, and the piste de resistance … the cauliflower cheese which was bare and flavourless cauliflower in a dish with a luminous yellow cheese sauce , which was confirmed by the chef as squeezy cheese! No matter though. We would of gladly just paid and left but for such a bad attitude of the owners/chef. When asked how the food was when clearing ten really still quite full plates one of our party said “do you want the honest answer” they said NO! Told they never had complaints after I tried to explain we all have bad days. There was a definite attitude problem with the owners and a refusal to even consider addressing the problems. Just one butternut squash dish was refunded. I was then told I was disgusting and they wanted me out the premises, after I said that you now have ten complaints in one party. To which the owner/chef also said. The complaints have come from ten people who had been drinking !!!! So apparently spending money in their premises “drinking” means you have no ability to complain I had had two gin and tonics but that point. Turning away what would have eventually been £1000 near as and lots of...

We’ve been coming to Hand & Heart for years, so when we heard it was under new management, we were a little nervous, especially since the Sunday roast has always been a favourite. But I’m beyond grateful (and relieved!) to say it’s still absolutely exceptional…if not even better!

I had the Pork Roast, which was cooked to perfection, while the rest of my family opted for the Beetroot Wellington, and everything was divine. You must try the cauliflower cheese and piggies in blankets, one of each is plenty for two people, and they’re both absolutely delicious. The quality and attention to detail in the food are outstanding.

The service was just as impressive, the staff were incredibly attentive, and I was genuinely surprised to see there was no service charge. Even when we tried to tip, the manager wouldn’t accept it! The pub still has the same cozy charm, and the cave setting remains as beautiful as ever.

It was also fantastic value for money. There were six of us, we each had a roast, a drink or two, and the total came to under £180, a rarity for a meal of this standard.

We went for Mother’s Day as a treat for my mum and auntie, and it was such a special experience. I honestly can’t recommend Hand & Heart enough, if you’re after a top-quality roast in a stunning setting with outstanding service, this is the...

We have been going to Hand and Heart for a good few years now for lunch but only every 6 or 8 weeks. Food and atmosphere always great and I would have recommended it to anyone. How ever we went a few weeks ago and had soup and it was actually horrible. We did not complain but put it down to just one of those things. We went again today we had a beef sandwich, a cheese and onion sandwich, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. £17 and something. The chips were great. The coffee was o.k. but the sandwiches were really poor. The bread was so dry it was almost like toast, the beef was just about passable , one of the cheese sandwiches had 2 pieces of cheese an inch square in it. We did complain and they offered to re-make the cheese sandwich i.e. put some more cheese in I suppose but we declined especially as the main complaint was the bread. The answer about the bread was that it was Sour Doe bread that was baked every day. There was no alternative bread on offer. Whether there has been a change in management or Chef I dont know but we wont be...

Very average food at very inflated prices. Was surprised that my request for potatoes instead of chips with my meal (potatoes were included with other menu choices) was greeted with extreme uncertainty by the waitress and ‘it might be okay, I’ll have to check with the chef’ 😆😆. Fortunately my request wasn’t considered too outrageous by the chef and potatoes were supplied. Menu was very limited, uninspiring and no sign of any specials to add to the variety. The prices are very inflated for what turned out to be very average pub food (£24 for a lamb shank). After struggling through a just about edible starter and main course, decided that even my sweet tooth couldn’t face their dessert choices. The menfolk in our party were happy with the beers on offer. Despite the lack of diners, service was very slow. Definitely won’t be making a reappearance.

Me and my sister came here for dinner! As soon as we got in the staff was lovely! I didn't get her name but there was a very nice lady wearing red with brown hair that was a star! As for the food, it came out quickly and was beautiful. I first got the soup with the bread! The bread was fluffy and yummy! And the soup was flavorful and a good portion! My sister got the brie cheese wedge and it was full of cheese!! Then I got the pork belly and it was amazing! The pork was succulent and full of flavour! The sauce it came with was delicious and the veg was cooked perfectly! My sister got the burger and it was juicy and full of flavour! The chunky chips were to die for! And the atmosphere was so unique! How often do you get to have dinner in a cave!! Lovely dinner location!!
