TL;DR: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! TAKE YOUR CUSTOM ACROSS THE STREET TO PIEMINISTER!
My family and I had an unfortunate experience due to experiencing unprovoked racism from the pub staff of this venue.
At 4:30pm today my family and I were visiting Nottingham and decided to choose 'The Three Crowns' to watch the Arsenal vs Newcastle football match with our American and Canadian cousins. Upon entering the pub, we asked staff if there were any tables available as we are a large party of six people including myself. The staff suggested that my family and I sit upstairs as there were bigger tables available. Upon sitting down and watching the first 10 mins of the game, my family and I decided to order some drinks and food. When three coloured male members of our party went downstairs to place a drinks and food order, they were told by staff that they needed to present ID for all members of our party to verify that we were all above the legal drinking age. Upon request, my family and I all were able to produce legal American AND Canadian IDs in ENGLISH to prove that we ALL were above the legal drinking age (The youngest of our party [Moi] is 27 years old). Upon showing our IDs to the staff, we were told that we ALL had to produce 'British IDs' (Which proved to be a redundant task as even though my brother and I produced our BRITISH passports, they confirmed that they were unable to serve us as other members of our parties had 'foreign IDs'.) When we were told that we wouldn't be able to buy alcoholic drinks for our party as our IDs were 'unreliable', we tried to negotiate just purchasing food instead, to which were informed that we 'won't be able to order anything as the kitchen closes at 5pm'. Disgusted by this blatant show of BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND RACISM and eager to catch the rest of the match, my family and rushed across the street to 'PieMinister' and enquired to their bar staff if they accepted Canadian and American IDs for purchasing alcohol, whereby their bar staff assured us that they did and pointed to their alcohol service sign (I took a picture of this sign as a reference but I am admittedly unsure how to attach it to this review).
Relieved that we were finally able to be served, we ordered a multitude of drinks and commiserated with the bar staff about our horrible experience at 'The Three Crowns'. Whereby one of the pub staff at 'PieMinister' confirmed that there's no written law which stipulates that only BRITISH ID can be accepted for the sale of alcohol.
As a Nottingham NATIVE, I'm throughly disgusted and disappointed by...
Read moreI went to the pub for the first time today to experience the food as a recent promotion from Sizzling pubs "Steak, chips & a drink for just £4.99". The description is as follow: "Until Sunday, you can enjoy a succulent 5oz Rump Steak with chips and a drink from our meal drink selection for just £4.99*! Don’t miss this superb exclusive discount – perfect for treating your loved ones this week. Simply head to your local and show them the QR code to redeem!"
My parter and I ordered the steak, chips and drinks as mentioned above however when we "simply... show them the QR code" we don't get what we expected. The first waitress read the QR code and promotion description with my phone for about 2 minute and then hand to her manager, another lady. This lady even takes longer to read the promotion. Meanwhile, all the waitresses were there to wait for her decision to see what it is. She then turn to me with confuse, say she never knew this thing. I was treated like a wired one to use this code.
My partner and I order two meals but eventually this lady only give a discount price £4.99 for one meal saying that it can only be redeemed once. My argument is that if it can only be used once, why the promotion say "perfect for treating your loved ones this week"? To Sizzling pub, is it perfect treatment for All my loved ones to share one 5oz steak? The promotion didn't say anything for this can be used once only. Anyway, very disappointed, I don't want to argue with her anymore since other customer are in line waiting. Ending up paying full...
Read moreI recently stopped by The Three Crowns in Nottingham on Saturday 26th around 6pm, but I left without ordering due to the incredibly rude and dismissive treatment I received. When I mentioned my gluten and dairy intolerances, the staff's attitude quickly made it clear that my dietary needs were seen as a hassle rather than something they’d willingly accommodate. It felt like they were more worried about being sued than creating an inclusive eating experience for all their customers.
The manager’s behavior was especially disappointing. Rather than addressing my concerns professionally, they interrupted with a snide comment about "having a process" in a way that felt entirely dismissive and unprofessional. It was shocking to be treated this way over a basic request for allergy accommodations.
While some of the younger staff were polite, they still need much better training in how to handle allergy-related inquiries without making customers feel like a burden.
It's a shame because it's such a nice pub, and was somewhere I could have imagined revisiting multiple times if this experience hadn't...
