Ok this is being generous and it gets this because actually , and I hope he doesn't mind me saying this, the elder gentleman serving behind the bar and also running food was amazing. Smiling always chatty and informative. So five stars to him. The food gets 2 stars. My eggs on ham and eggs were stone cold. My guess is they were pre cooked and then not reheated properly. If you cant do fresh eggs to order at least make sure you heat them up properly to serve. The onion gravy was awful on the pie. I'm an ex chef and that wasnt good. I suggest buying some bisto granules if you cant make a proper gravy at least that would be better than the watery brown stuff with a onion that had given up on life. The so called triple cooked chips resembled the same straight cut chips I get from tesco. The were not triple cooked. See photo. No wheelchair access toilets was disappointing in this day and age. I'm guessing this is a tourist trap but it's sad that people all over the globe think this is true representation of British cuisine..it isnt. Oh and when we arrived we were told we couldn't order food till 12.30 because chef was late. I almost wish he hadn't turned up and saved us from a very below average meal. The ham was nice though this was bought in. Also the manager could probably do with learning how to be a little less intimidating and maybe smile once. He acted like he was running a rough east end pub in London not a historic pub in Oxford.

This is my first trip to the UK so I really l just wanted a typical dish... Fish & Chips and a pint. I was walking through Oxford Square and came across this establishment. From the outside, it just seemed to epitomize what I had imagined a traditional English restaurant. Inside, there are multiple dining areas, some with screens to watch the latest match. And they have a few bar areas where you can enjoy a pint and a meal. The first pint I had, was just okay, but then was given a different pint which I found to be amazing! And finally... I was able to get a traditional Fish & Chips and it was everything I had expected. Of course, I have had fish & chips before and at many places throughout the world that claim to be traditional but this was simply epic! The fish was a generous portion of haddock and in a delicious batter. Not too heavy or greasy. It came with a tartar sauce and some malt vinegar. The chips were thick and cooked to a golden brown on the outside and still crispy on the side. Maybe everywhere in England serves great fish & chips, but in my experienced having dined in over 90 countries, nothing compares to what I have had here. The atmosphere is fun, the people who work there are very nice and friendly. Great food and atmosphere. I'm sure I'll be back at least one more time before I leave.

The King's Arms in Oxford, located at 40 Holywell Street, is one of the city’s most historic and beloved pubs. Founded in 1607, it has long been a gathering place for students, locals, and visitors alike, creating an atmosphere that combines Oxford’s scholarly charm with a warm, lively pub environment. It’s situated conveniently near the heart of the university and some of its iconic colleges, including the Bodleian Library, making it a favorite spot for university students, professors, and tourists. Inside, the pub boasts classic decor, including dark wood paneling, low-beamed ceilings, and snug corners that evoke a sense of timeless English tradition. Known for its selection of cask ales, the King's Arms offers a variety of beers from local and regional breweries, along with an excellent menu of traditional pub fare. The outdoor seating area is especially popular during the warmer months, allowing patrons to enjoy views of Oxford's charming architecture while socializing. The King's Arms is also steeped in history; it has been a hub for academic discussion and debate over centuries, frequented by scholars and even notable figures associated with Oxford. Today, it still retains that academic spirit while offering a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits.

I had the worst experience here today. This is our local pub and we use to go here a lot and looks like staff have changed. We won’t ever be coming back. We went and sat down under gazebo as that’s where it said they were ordering food (first come first serve) I went over to a lady description: half shaved head and blue frame glasses. I had asked “is it possible we can have a food menu please?” And she said “yeah, did you sit down yourself or get hosted to sit there?” And I said “we just sat down outside as it said we could only order food here.” She replied “ok in future please get hosted to sit down” and gave me the menu and she said “I will come over to take our order soon”. I apologised to her as I didn’t know we had to get hosted before as no signs anywhere explaining that. We then were ready order 5minutes after looking at the menu and she went round and took peoples orders who arrived after us when she knew we were looking over trying to make eye contact , even so we were so patient. 30mins went by and I finally got her attention by waving. She then came over and said “sorry about that, what would you like?” And I responded “two bacon and chicken ciabatta sandwiches please, that’s all thank you”. And then 1 hour went by and still no food. People were getting served who had arrived after us and I also had a newborn baby with me. She kept consciously looking over at us and didn’t even have the decency to come and tell us what was going on considering we had a crying baby in the sun and I really feel like it was done out of spite because we wasn’t “hosted” to our seat. I do not think it takes over an hour to cook a sandwich and even so if something went wrong in the kitchen or had delays why is there no update to anyone especially when someone has a newborn baby. We ended up walking out after waiting a total of 2 hours to get served and also waiting for food. If that was done out of spite that is disgusting as I had our little baby with us who was getting distressed being sat in the sun. I think you should really have words with your staff. Really unprofessional. They should be updating their customers and not ignore them when trying to get their attention. Won’t be...

Thank you for the worst Sunday roast of my life. I went to King's Arms with my boyfriend and two friends of mine. My boyfriend and I ordered 'roast sirloin of beef, Yorkshire pudding' (£14.5) and 'roast loin pork with crackling' (£12.95) and the photos are what we actually got. The staff said they had run out of roast vegetables and offered to give us a side order of salad instead. When the order came however, no salad, no gravy, no Yorkshire pudding and no pork crackling was the end result. When we asked the serving staff if we could get some gravy, he said they had also run out of gravy too and instead gave us an HP brown sauce bottle. I asked him about Yorkshire pudding and his answer was essentially: "We do not serve Yorkshire pudding with this dish. I don't know why it's written on the menu. Sorry...." Then why is it written on the menu, charging us £14.5 for some meat with cabbage swimming in yucky vegetable juice with really dry potatoes? (You can even see on their website what the dish should look like.....and guess what? There's Yorkshire pudding there!) He later did bring some gravy, which I suppose the kitchen staff decided they did have after all, but it was very poor. We also had to ask him for the order of side salad as it appears that they had forgotten that they had agreed they would give it to us. There was a quite a bit of back and forth between our server and the kitchen. The pork (see picture) was poorly cooked and had more fat on it than you could buy for a pork chop in a cheap supermarket. The potatoes you could count, and there was also no pork crackling. Instead, you could see the red pork stamp that is revealed on uncooked pork skin. In the end we decided to get a full refund after a good 40 minutes of waiting for the dishes shown in the picture. Not sure how the pub is managed, but the management of the food is amateurish at best. Better off going to...
